North Adelaide Suburb Profile
Home to world-class sporting facilities, trendy eateries, and some of Adelaide’s most popular restaurants and bars, living in North Adelaide means locals don’t have to go far to be entertained. O’Connell Street has an eclectic mix of alfresco cafés, bars, and hotels – it’s a hotspot for live music. Pubs host evening revellers who spill out onto the street, while baristas are kept busy by weekday workers and ladies who brunch.
Dining out is the norm with a variety of cuisines on offer, while shopping is made easy with North Adelaide Village and the surrounding designer boutiques and specialty shops. Melbourne Street offers another strip of cafés, services, and a handful of fashion shops, all within walking distance of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Adelaide Zoo. The iconic Adelaide Oval, home to passionate AFL and cricket fans, looms large beside the River Torrens, and sits in stark contrast to the nearby ornate churches and cathedrals that make Adelaide famous.
Living in North Adelaide also means enjoying leisurely walks through the Park Lands, running around the River Torrens, or swimming laps at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre. Golfers are spoilt with three versatile courses at the North Adelaide Golf Course, while dogs and their owners can be found playing at the popular North Adelaide Dog Park.

North Adelaide has long been regarded as an upper-class neighbourhood where wealthy families live alongside celebrities in lavish manors. However, this stereotype is being increasingly challenged. A new generation of young professionals and students are moving in. While high prices put North Adelaide homes out of reach for many young families, the area continues to be popular with retirees, executive couples and established families.
