From April 9th to 12th, Adelaide shifts into something else entirely. AFL Gather Round takes over, and suddenly the city — and the Barossa — are buzzing with footy, long lunches, live music and that unmistakable festival energy. Here’s how to do it properly over four action-packed days.

AFL Gather Round 2026: Day 1

Morning

Touch down and check into a CBD stay — Oval Hotel, Adelaide Marriott, EOS by SkyCity or Crowne Plaza all put you within easy reach of the action. Once you’re settled, ease in with a coffee at Exchange Coffee or Penny University.

Lunch

Make your way into the city centre for a quick but seriously good bite. Sitchu Awards winner, Bottega Bandito is the go-to for stacked Italian sandos (get in early — they sell out), while Sit Lo keeps things fresh with banh mi and rice bowls. Craving something indulgent? Bank Street Burger delivers smash-style burgers done right.

Sherrin Footy Hub

Afternoon

Wander through Rundle Mall and you’ll know Gather Round has arrived. The Sherrin Footy Hub and it’s golden ball are hard to miss — part playground, part fan zone — with trick-shot challenges, interactive games and a styling bar to kit yourself out in team colours. There’s plenty happening beyond that, too: AFL player appearances, DJs, street performers and pop-up stalls keep the energy high well into the afternoon.

Getting around is refreshingly easy, with free Adelaide Metro travel included with game-day tickets, plus extra services and shuttle buses running between key precincts — so you can move between the city, festival zones and the Oval without overthinking it.

Evening

The round kicks off at Adelaide Oval, with Adelaide taking on Carlton under lights (expect a lively crowd and plenty of atmosphere).

After the final siren, head straight into dinner mode — Soi 38 for late-night Thai, Fugazzi for polished Italian, or Station Road for a Euro Australian feast. If you’re not quite ready to call it, 2KW Bar is the perfect last stop, with rooftop views over the River Torrens.

AFL Gather Round 2026: Day 2

Morning

Start slow. Brunch at Peter Rabbit or Cottage Kitchen in North Adelaide is always a good idea, while Blended Cafe keeps things easy and reliable. For something quicker, Mascavado is ideal for a pastry and coffee on the go, or swing by My Kingdom for a Horse for a proper caffeine fix.

Afternoon

Head to Elder Park for the Macca’s Footy Festival, where things feel more like a full-scale event than a fan zone. Think zip-lining over the River Torrens, live music, roaming performers and plenty for kids and adults alike. Food trucks and pop-up bars keep you well fed while you wander.

Evening

Settle into the East End for dinner — Paper Tiger, The Laneway Social, Africola and Golden Boy are all strong choices — or keep things simple with a glass of wine at East End Cellars. From here, it’s an easy walk back to Adelaide Oval for the Collingwood, Fremantle clash.

Sitchu tip: If you’re looking to elevate the experience, the Pepsi Collective blends live DJs with premium hospitality — part party, part footy, and one of the most fun ways to do game night.

AFL Gather Round 2026: Day 3

Morning

Set the alarm and get on the road early — the Barossa is calling. Your first stop sets the tone. In Nuriootpa, Fleur Social is a beautifully considered cafe-meets-florist, pairing locally roasted coffee with seasonal bites in a space that feels equal parts creative and calm. Alternatively, Tanunda Bakery is a Barossa institution, known for its German-style pretzels, sourdough and strong coffee. Or try Darling’s Food With Passion, where local producers shine across a thoughtful, produce-driven menu.

If you’re staying in the city, consider kicking off your morning with Run 4 Your Club — a 4km riverside run or walk from Elder Park that brings fans together (and against each other) for a bit of friendly rivalry, all while supporting a good cause.

Afternoon

Ease into the region with a relaxed bite at St Hugo Wines, Barossa Valley Cheese Company or Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, then make the most of the Bounce Around the Barossa shuttle — an easy way to explore cellar doors and local stops without needing to drive.

From there, it’s time for the footy. At Barossa Park, North Melbourne takes on Brisbane Lions, but the experience goes well beyond the game. The Barossa Park Live Site brings festival energy with DJs, a kids’ play zone, face painting and even a Ferris wheel overlooking the vines, while local food and wine vendors keep things distinctly Barossa.

Evening

Post-match, settle in for dinner — and this is where the region really shines. Appellation at The Louise is one of the Barossa’s most celebrated dining experiences, with seasonal, locally sourced dishes and sweeping vineyard views. Harvest Kitchen, set at the Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre, offers generous, share-style plates with Mediterranean influence and a strong focus on local produce — best enjoyed with a glass of the region’s signature Shiraz. For something more relaxed, Lou’s by Horizon delivers modern Italian in a warm, winery setting.

Sitchu tip: Stay the night. The Barossa is best experienced slowly, and an overnight stay means you can actually enjoy the wine, the scenery and the stillness once the crowds fade.

AFL Gather Round 2026: Day 4

Morning

Start your final day at the Adelaide Farmers’ Market (special Gather Round edition), where fresh pastries, local coffee, and produce set a chilled vibe. With live music and plenty to explore, it’s perfect for a slow, leisurely wander.

Afternoon

Make your way to The Parade, Norwood for the Norwood Food & Wine Festival. It’s one of the weekend’s biggest street parties — think live music, roaming performers, local food and wine stalls, and big screens showing the footy as it unfolds. If you’re keen for one last match in person, Geelong are taking on the West Coast Eagles at Norwood Oval just steps away.

Evening

Round things out with a headline set from The Presets on The Parade — a high-energy finish to four days of footy, food and festival atmosphere.
