Living in Balwyn
The Locals

Picture the Australian dream, and you’ve got yourself something a little like living in Balwyn. The streets are eternally leafy and green, the homes expansive, and the coffee freshly roasted and always brewing. Aspirational in every way, this well-manicured suburb has long been a favourite with Melbourne’s elite. Well-to-do families flock to Balwyn for the fantastic quality of life. Block sizes are somewhat larger than those found in equally esteemed neighbourhoods, meaning that beautifully tended gardens are the norm, as are pools and tennis courts. In fact, a number of Balwyn’s impressive mansions are heritage-protected and recognised as being of architectural significance.

As with neighbouring Camberwell, living in Balwyn offers access to tree-lined streets home to some of the city’s most esteemed private schools, namely Fintona Girls’ School. Always quiet and peaceful, this pretty suburb boasts a roster of appealing cafés and restaurants along Whitehorse Road as well as the jewel in Balwyn’s crown – the charming Palace Balwyn cinema. Located just 10-kilometres from the CBD, distinguished yet warm Balwyn feels like it’s a world away.

Area Features

Maranoa Gardens

As well as an impressive array of parks, leafy Balwyn is also home to the beautiful Maranoa Gardens, a native garden developed by locals that is not only a popular place for weddings; it is also the perfect spot to while away a lazy afternoon.

Stately Homes

Wander the streets of Balwyn to take in some of the most beautiful (and impressive) mansions Melbourne has to offer. Many boast heritage-listed status, and others have been beautifully maintained with modern additions that only add to the appeal of the home.

Offering an incredible standard of living (with the price points to match), it’s only natural that affluent families, older couples and retirees favour Balwyn. The impressive roster of private schools in the area, as well as those located amongst the leafy streets of its neighbouring suburbs, are a major drawcard, as are the area’s prime location and calm, safe streets. While it certainly isn’t the spot for late-night revellers, Balwyn possesses a warm community feel and a sophisticated yet low-key atmosphere that postcode-proud locals just can’t get enough of.
