Sandringham Suburb Profile

Charming, family-friendly Sandringham feels more like a summery holiday village than a suburb. With its beautiful homes, stunning oceanfront views and strong sense of community, this popular Bayside neighbourhood is just the place for city folk looking for something of a sea change.

Living in Sandringham
The Locals

Located a mere 16 kilometres from the hustle and bustle of the CBD, Sandy (as it’s fondly known by locals) is a little slice of paradise. As with neighbouring Hampton, it comes as no surprise that this lovely neighbourhood was once a holiday resort favoured by artists and the elite. At the end of the train line, living in Sandringham offers a peaceful escape from city life that comes complete with every possible convenience. The buzzing village (known locally as Gipsy Village, in reference to times gone by) is the centre of all activity and features an impressive roster of cafés and stores. In fact, the only things that Sandringham lacks are restaurants and nightlife. However, while this sleepy locale is certainly not the place for revellers, the action of St Kilda is a handy 20-minute drive away.

With such beautiful surroundings, it’s no wonder living in Sandringham means residents tend to be outdoorsy types. Rain or shine, joggers and bike riders (and even the occasional rollerblader) make their way along Beach Road. As for the beach itself–well, this is Sandringham’s star attraction. Nearby walking trails, a lovely stretch of foreshore, and clean, clear water feel more like the Mornington Peninsula than Melbourne. With imposing cliffs and red bluffs, the area’s beautiful natural features bely its convenient urban postcode.

Area Features

Beach Time

A beautiful beachfront complete with walking trails, a surf lifesaving club, jetty and bluff make Sandringham Beach one of Melbourne’s finest–no matter the weather.

Village Life

Complete with expansive views across Port Phillip Bay, busy Sandringham Village is the heart of the local community.

The Great Outdoors

From its winding walking paths to dramatic cliffs and beachside promenades, life in Sandy is all about the great outdoors.

Quietly affluent, safe and secure, Sandringham is custom made for families. Somewhat more affordable than its inner-bayside counterparts, this homey neighbourhood is just the place to raise children. Older couples and wealthy professionals are similarly enchanted by Sandringham’s warm village lifestyle and breathtaking surrounds. The backdrop of the great outdoors, fresh ocean air, several good schools nearby and a self-contained shopping centre add to the neighbourhood’s appeal. Locals here tend to be fiercely loyal–it’s not uncommon for successive generations to stay within the neighbourhood’s borders.
