Living Like a Local: One Week in Perth Through the Eyes of a Longtime Resident
Sun-soaked days, coastal charm, and incredible eats and experiences—here’s how to spend the perfect week in Perth, as seen through the eyes of our local writer.

I love to travel. Nothing fills my cup like discovering new places and experiences far from home. Yet, without fail, every time I return to Perth—especially after my 12-month stint in London—I’m reminded just how grateful I am for this sun-soaked, relaxed-yet-buzzing city.
Living like a local in Perth isn’t about chaotic itineraries. It’s about slowing down, savouring the moment, and embracing our phenomenal beaches, refined dining, and vibrant bar scene. We’ve long shed the ‘dullsville’ label, yet I’m always surprised when east-coast friends marvel at Perth’s rich culture, immaculate vibes, and jaw-dropping natural beauty. To us locals, it’s no secret—just a treasure waiting for the rest to catch on.
This itinerary highlights my favourite spots, experiences, and moments—paired with all the cocktails, walks, sunsets, and delicious food you can squeeze into a week. If that sounds like your kind of trip, you’re going to love it here.
So, here’s how to spend a week in Perth, through the eyes of someone who calls it home. Take your time, follow your nose, and discover the best of Perth.

Monday: A Peaceful Morning by the Swan
Ease into the week with a morning walk along the sparkling Swan River. The Matilda Bay foreshore is a peaceful stretch where locals walk their dogs, exercise, or sip coffee while watching sailboats and black swans drift by. Stretch out on the grassy bank with a takeaway coffee, or grab breakfast at Little Way in Nedlands—relax in the courtyard over fresh food and great coffee.
In the afternoon, explore the Art Gallery of WA before wandering through Northbridge’s laneways, dotted with small bars and boutiques. As the sun sets, sip a lush cocktail at Wildflower’s rooftop bar, where the city skyline steals the show. Wrap up the day with an Italian feast at No Mafia, known for its authentic share plates, buzzing atmosphere, and impressive wine list.

Tuesday: Hit the Beach
Start the day with a dip at Cottesloe Beach, joining the early-morning swimmers as the sun rises over the Indian Ocean. A post-swim coffee at Daisies in Cott is a classic local move—grab a muffin (I’ve driven 30 minutes just for one) or an açai bowl and soak up the beachside vibes.
In the afternoon, visit Karrinyup Shopping Centre, where a mix of designer boutiques, homegrown fashion, and luxe beauty stores make for an indulgent browse. If hunger strikes, stop at Ciao Dandy for an Aperol spritz and Italian bites on their stylish rooftop.
As the sun sets, head to Scarborough for ocean views and good vibes. Kick off the evening at Skol, a chic small bar serving creative cocktails and natural wines (their cucumber-spiced margarita is unforgettable). Then, settle in for a casual beachside dinner at The Peach Pit, where juicy burgers and breezy cocktails set the tone for a laid-back night.

Wednesday: Bakeries & Nature Walks
Start your morning at Chu Bakery in Highgate. Their pastries are worth the wait, and a stroll through Hyde Park with a treat in hand is pure bliss.
Later, escape to Lesmurdie Falls in the Perth Hills. Take in sweeping city views from the lookout, then hit the trails for a peaceful nature fix.
Come evening, indulge in an intimate dining experience at Fleur. With modern European cuisine, an impeccable wine list, and plenty of tableside theatre, it’s an experience you won’t forget.

Thursday: Wine & Dine in the Valley
A short drive from the city, Swan Valley feels like a world away. Begin with a wine tasting at Mandoon Estate, then settle in for a long lunch at Sandalford, where premium wines and gourmet dishes steal the show.
Back in the city, wind down with a drink at a small bar—Wines of While and Folly rooftop are always solid picks. Or, for something different, sip a perfectly crafted negroni at Foxtrot Unicorn, an underground cocktail bar hidden in a circa-1887 bank vault.

Friday: A Day in Freo
Fremantle is a 30-minute drive from Perth and well worth the visit. Start with a coffee at Ooh Coffee, then explore the West End’s galleries, bookstores, and vintage stores. A stop at the Fremantle Markets is essential—grab fresh produce, flowers, and handmade gifts, or pick up a brekkie burger from Eggspot to fuel your morning wanderings.
For lunch, book a table at my favourite spot, Vin Populi, and sip limoncello spritzes over generous plates of burrata and house-made pasta. Later, head to Gage Roads Brewing Co. for a sunset drink with waterfront views. If you’re up for more, finish the night with a cocktail at Republic of Fremantle, where expertly distilled spirits set the tone for a chic evening.

Saturday: Beach, Brunch & A Night Out
Kick off your Saturday at Trigg Beach—whether you’re surfing or walking the coast, it’s the perfect weekend starter. Follow it up with brunch at Island Market, where Middle Eastern-inspired dishes meet unbeatable ocean views. Or, grab a brekkie tray from Canteen and enjoy with your toes in the sand.
In the afternoon, swap the beach for a long, late lunch at The Shorehouse in Swanbourne. Their bright deck, extensive cocktail list, and panoramic ocean views make for a dreamy afternoon session.
As night falls, head to The Corner Dairy in Doubleview for share plates, natural wines, and a buzzing atmosphere. Then, jump in an Uber to Northbridge and dance the night away at The Rechabite, one of Perth’s best live music venues.

Sunday: Wind Down Like a Local
Sundays in Perth are all about balance. Start slow with breakfast at Hylin in West Leederville before heading to Kings Park. A stroll through the Botanic Garden, a coffee from Zamia Cafe, and a quiet moment overlooking the city skyline make for the perfect wind-down.
In the afternoon, head to South Fremantle. Swim at South Beach, browse boutique stores, and indulge in a seafood feast at Madalena’s, where local produce shines. As the sun dips, wrap up your week with a sunset negroni at Indigo Oscar in Cottesloe—because there’s no better way to farewell Perth than with a cocktail and ocean views.
Perth is a place to savour—beach swims, long lunches, epic sunsets, and unbeatable vibes. Whether you’re here for a week or a lifetime, one thing’s certain: you’ll never want to leave.
