Best Things to Do in Perth: Eat

Gibney
When the mood strikes for caviar bumps and bubbles overlooking some of the most glorious ocean views in WA, Cottesloe’s opulent restaurant, Gibney, is the answer. This glam oceanfront dining spot oozes luxury, from the impeccably dressed waitstaff to the jaw-dropping menu and the bespoke touches of elegance everywhere you look. The formal dining alfresco terrace is the first of its kind in WA, and will quite simply take your breath away.
The menu is inspired by old-world brasseries and steak houses, with a focus on classic flavours and timeless presentation. Expect to see chefs tableside, showcasing the best of WA’s producers, including seafood, steak, homemade pasta and luxurious snacks.
40 Marine Parade, Cottesloe

Si Paradiso
Highgate’s slice of retro-Italy serves some of the best wood-fired pizzas in Perth, but that’s not all this part-bar, part-restaurant has going for it. Si Paradiso has a front lobby restaurant that’s perfect for sips and catch-ups over delicious Italian snacks and sharing plates, but it’s the impressive outdoor amphitheatre where the magic happens. There’s a sense of privacy and excitement when you step inside this space, especially if you catch a sunset party or a Sunday session channelling Euro-summer vibes.
1/446 Beaufort Street, Highgate

Vin Populi
There is something so effortlessly cool about Fremantle’s Vin Populi. The space is stylish yet casual, the food is phenomenal and full of flavour, the service is friendly, and the drinks are excellent. It’s the type of place you can linger for hours, ordering negroni after negroni as the sunshine pours through the windows, eating your way through fresh antipasti and generous plates of homemade pasta.
11 High Street, Fremantle

The Shorehouse
Perched on the shore of Swanbourne beach, The Shorehouse is the epitome of coastal glamour and foodie indulgence. With its relaxed vibes, sprawling balcony offering breathtaking views of the ocean, and some of the best cocktails you’ll find in Perth, you can easily while away an afternoon, sipping and basking in the glow of the sun. As the sun dips below the horizon, there’s no better place to savour a cocktail and toast to the end of another day exploring Perth.
278 Marine Parade, Swanbourne

Long Chim
From their basement digs in Perth’s CBD, Long Chim has given Pad Thai the flick. Instead, they have a winning menu that is overflowing with flavours from Southeast Asia. It’s street food done exceptionally well, and the signature drinks collection, including Muay Thai Mai Tai or Thai Basil Smash, will keep you here well into the night.
State Building, Basement Level, corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street, Perth

Wildflower
Atop one of the finest hotels in town, Wildflower blends the indigenous culture of seasonal changes with contemporary fine dining. Their menu revolves around the six seasons of the indigenous Noongar calendar – Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang – meaning, Wildflower’s farmer and forager-driven menu changes align with the ebbs and flow of nature’s bounty.
Fittingly, a large mural depicting the bushland features in the light-filled interiors of the main dining room, while the outdoor terrace overlooks Swan River and the CBD.
COMO the Treasury, Level 4, 1 Cathedral Avenue, Perth

Le Rebelle
If you’ve ever dined at or heard of Print Hall, Star Anise, Miss Kitty’s Saloon or Lalla Rookh, you have to check out Le Rebelle. A fabulous nouveau-French bistro from husband-and-wife duo Sarah and Liam Atkinson, who both have played a big part in what made all those previous destinations so good. Settle into black bentwood bistro chairs, timber finishes, and leather banquettes, and devour French staples like steak tartare, fresh oysters, and côte de boeuf, alongside glazed duck and incredible house-made fromage. Finish up with the vanilla bean crème caramel – trust us.
There’s a delicious, 50-bottle-strong wine list, handwritten and filled with plenty of Burgundy and old world French drops, and peppered with a few standout local drops, the perfect pairing to a perfect meal.
676 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley

Bivouac
In a city that prides itself on its lineup of global eats, Bivouac pulls rank with its Eastern-inspired dishes. Their menu is designed to be shared, and each dish reflects regional origins, but with Bivouac’s interpretation of the traditional recipes – think halloumi with pomegranate molasses, roasted tikka spiced pumpkin and slow-braised goat shoulder.
But that’s not all this small Northbridge restaurant does well. Their walls are a blank canvas for local and emerging artists to exhibit their work, bringing a creative energy that’s constantly evolving.
198 William Street, Northbridge, Perth
Best Things to Do in Perth: Drink

Percy Flint
The neighbourhood wine bar slinging good vibes and good times, South Fremantle’s Percy Flint is all about drinks with mates in the late afternoon sun. Whether you sit streetside or in the backyard beer garden, you can expect a laidback energy, friendly staff, familiar faces and an epic drinks list. Beers on tap, wines by the glass, delish cocktails (we’ll take a Tommy’s marg, thanks), and easy bar bites make up the regular menu, while chess nights, mid-week meal deals and happy hour specials make this a bar you won’t want to skip.
211 South Terrace, South Fremantle

Lola Underground
Finally giving the CBD the late-night hotspot it desperately needed, Lola Underground is the cool-girl bar slinging drinks in the heart of Perth. Make your way to the basement of the State Buildings and immerse yourself in the uber-chic, moody bar within. Intimate and cosy by design, this spot calls for romantic date nights and elevated catch-ups. Your evening is fueled by a selection of French, Australian and Spanish wines, and simple European-inspired bites keep your tummy happy, too. As if that wasn’t good enough, catch live music every Saturday with ‘Underground Sessions.’
Sitchu tip: Heading down south? Check out sister venue, Lady Lola, in Dunsborough, and take a seat in the lush alfresco area for an afternoon of bubbles and oysters. Love!

Ezra Pound
On-trend and pulsing with an energy that has people hitting the streets in droves, the laneway bars of Northbridge in Perth’s city centre rival that of Melbourne’s. Tucked away on Williams Lane is Ezra Pound, one of the original small bars to hit the streets, and it has steadfastly remained a local go-to. Inspired by Prohibition America, the folks behind Ezra Pound mix up a mean cocktail, and their bar menu is a nod to pub faves. It’s also well-priced, leaving you with plenty of spare change to kick back a few in the chilled-out space.
Williams Lane, 189 William Street, Northbridge, Perth

Madalenas Bar
Charcuterie, cheese boards and fresh seafood are the perfect tidbits to accompany shaken and stirred creations and curated wines at South Fremantle’s Madalenas Bar.
