Living in Ashfield offers a vibrant multicultural community, often referred to as the Chinatown of the inner west by food enthusiasts. Liverpool Road is the main commercial precinct, home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and grocery stores, including many Asian markets, as well as Ashfield Mall. Streets like Charlotte Street, Elizabeth Street, and Parramatta Road bustle with activity, and nearby hubs like Five Dock, Haberfield, and Croydon add to the appeal. The suburb’s proximity to the CBD makes living in Ashfield ideal for professionals, with easy commuting options. The railway station provides express trains to the city—just two stops to Central—and buses run frequently to Burwood, Bondi Junction, and Drummoyne. The airport is also conveniently accessible, just a 20-minute train ride away. 

Ashfield’s community spirit and green spaces make it popular with families. There are three primary schools and three high schools within the suburb, with many more nearby. An active lifestyle is encouraged, with locals frequently exercising, exploring, and enjoying the sunshine in the area’s many parks. Ashfield Park

Set across six hectares, Ashfield Park is a local hub in its own right. The expansive park is beautifully landscaped, and boasts a bowling club, sporting oval, gardens, BBQ facilities, shaded areas, and a playground that caters to children of all ages.

Heritage Walks

The Inner-West Council has created four self-guided heritage walks that take locals and visitors through the history of the area. Each walk is about two hours in length, and gives an insight into the suburb’s fascinating past and the characters who have called it home over the years.

Ashfield Mall

Ashfield Mall offers residents all their shopping and service needs under the one roof. It has three major supermarkets, a department store and specialty shops.
