Art Meets Bondi at Sculpture by the Sea

Once again, Sculpture by the Sea is transforming the stunning coastal walk between Bondi and Tamarama into the world’s largest annual free-to-the-public outdoor sculpture exhibition. One of Sydney’s most photogenic exhibitions, Sculpture by the Sea artists use the natural landscape to create intriguing and thought provoking works of art, which literally stops people in their tracks.

Celebrating 20 years, Sculpture by the Sea are exhibiting more than 100 works by Australian and international artists, including artists from Asia, Europe, New Zealand, South America, UK and the USA. A selection of 20 Australian artists, who have previously exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea, have been invited to exhibit again this year for their role in the strength and development of sculpture in Australia.

Attracting over 500,000 visitors during the 18-day open-air exhibit, Sculptures by the Sea captures the imagination of visitors by encouraging people to interact with the art or to simply absorb their place. Among these works, artist Inge King AM, who passed away in April at 100 years of age, will be honoured with two works from different stages of her career forming part of the exhibition.

If all this wasn’t enough to get you out and walking one of Sydney’s most renowned walks, Sculpture by the Sea is also hosting a series of artists talks every weekend between 11am and 3pm, featuring both local and international exhibiting artists. And if you want to extend your sculptural experience that little bit further, the inaugural Sydney Sculpture Conference will take place at Sydney Opera House on Thursday 27 October. Leading international and Australian speakers in their field will discuss the importance, impact, challenges and opportunities of sculpture in public space.

With warmer and longer days upon us, now is the perfect time to get out and explore the two-kilometre-long temporary sculptural park.
