This Supercharged Dog Food Might Just Be the Best Thing To Give Your Pup

We tried Australia's most luxe dog food and here are our honest thoughts.

When it comes to pet food, the options can be overwhelming — some nourishing, others less so, and a few downright indulgent. So, when I stumbled across this Australian-owned pet food company, I was intrigued. Far from your typical kibble-based options that most fur-babies are used to, Lyka is made with fresh, human-grade ingredients, packed with all the nutrients your pup needs, and nothing they don’t.

Dude (my mini groodle) isn’t exactly fussy, but when it comes to food, he does have, ahem, refined taste — dry kibble is a no-go unless there’s a dollop of yoghurt involved. After researching various options to ensure he was getting the nutrients he needed for his daily zoomies and visits to our fave local café for a puppuccino, I decided to give Lyka a go.

Let’s be honest — Lyka is a splurge. But if it lived up to its claims, I was happy to justify the cost. So, I tested Australia’s most premium dog food to see if it was worth the hype. Here’s my honest review.

Pros

  • Made from fresh, real, human-grade ingredients
  • High in protein
  • Gently cooked (preserving nutrients for better digestion)
  • Personalised meal plans and easy delivery

Cons

  • Expensive compared to standard kibble
  • Meals arrive frozen — expect to dedicate some valuable freezer real estate

What’s Inside a Lyka Box?

After creating a profile for your pup on the Lyka website, you’ll be sent two weeks’ worth of meals, perfectly portioned and ready to serve. You can also tweak the quantity to suit your pup’s needs, which is ideal if they’re smaller (or larger) than average for their breed.

Do Vets Recommend Lyka?

As a devoted dog mum, I prioritise high-quality protein and transparency in labelling — I like knowing exactly what’s in my pup’s bowl. The fact that veterinary nutritionists formulate Lyka gave me extra peace of mind. Think of it as meal prepping for your dog, without the actual prep.

Dude’s licked the bowl completely clean!

Is Lyka Fur Baby Approved?

While Dude has always had a healthy appetite, you’ll often find him turning his nose at a bowl of dry kibble. However, he devoured his first bowl of Lyka without hesitation — a rare sight for my selective snacker (see above). Each box comes with a variety of proteins to keep his daily meals interesting, just how he likes it. Plus, I’ve even been able to exclude chicken (one protein he doesn’t tolerate well).

It’s safe to say, Dude is a big fan.

Final Verdict

Would I recommend Lyka to fellow dog parents? Absolutely, especially if your dog is a picky eater or you’re determined to improve its overall health and well-being. The quality is exceptional, and it can be personalised to your special fur baby.

That said, the price point may not suit every household. If a full Lyka diet isn’t feasible, consider mixing it with your dog’s usual kibble to elevate their meals without completely breaking the bank.
