The Best Luxury Accommodation in Tasmania for A Glamorous Getaway

From the city to the country, to smack bang in a national park, we’ve rounded up the most coveted luxury accommodation across Tasmania. Expect killer views, deep baths, some off-grid wonders, and exceptional produce.

Saffire Freycinet

Gone are the days when luxury accommodation meant white sheets, turn-down service, and breakfast buffet - although, we’re also here for that! Tasmania delivers an array of unique and exciting luxury accommodation options.

Nestled amidst the island's natural wonders, discerning travellers can discover a state of opulence that blends seamlessly with its surroundings. From secluded coastal retreats with panoramic ocean views to historic buildings brimming with old-world charm and glamping under the stars, Tasmania offers a diverse range of upscale lodging options.

Here is our list of Tasmania's best luxury accommodation.

The Polaire Suite

Step inside one of Hobart's most tranquil stays and discover some luxurious amenities you won't want to depart from. The Polaire Suite is spacious, light-filled and strikingly minimalist, a sweet retreat on St David's Park just across from the famous Salamanca Place.

Housed within a character rich original building dating back to 1929, it's been transformed and beautifully styled with statement design pieces, original local artwork and luxurious natural finishes in sub-Antarctic hues.

Luxurious in scale, the fully self-contained interior's most elegant features include a generous king bedroom with separate open plan living and dining area, lofty ceilings and a North facing aspect towards kunanyi/Mount Wellington. Breathtaking herringbone oak floors and soft, glowing light veiled by linen sheers create a peaceful ambience. A palette of muted greys with layers of cotton, wool and linen are styled for a restful escape.

Our favourite feature of all? The blissful walk-in rain shower. Guests also receive priority status at the award-winning Institut Polaire downstairs. It's notoriously difficult to get into, and you don't want to miss out on trying the Antarctic dry martini.

Saffire Freycinet

You could stay under a tarp at Coles Bay and still have a delightful trip, but Saffire Freycinet really turned it up a notch when it opened 20 luxury suites in one of the most breathtaking spots in Australia.

Set within a national park, each of the suites and pavilions are impeccably designed, with awe-inspiring views everywhere you look. From king beds to espresso machines, all-inclusive dining, double baths and showers, secluded courtyards and private plunge pools in the pavilions, Saffire delivers the epitome of luxury.

If you want to explore, there are walks, snorkelling and oyster shucking to experience, while the sprawling property has plenty to keep you busy. Views from the restaurant and lobby are magical, and the option to retreat to the day spa is an invite that’s hard to pass up.

Their minimum two-night stay is barely long enough to make the most of this place, but we’ll take it.

The Rox Hobart

We're completely smitten with this luxury accommodation in Tasmania. The Rox provides you with an elevated and exceptional stay right in the heart of Hobart's most vibrant neighbourhood.

Stay in the heritage Elizabeth or Alexander Apartments and bask in the living history of the space. Or, step into the luxurious surrounds of their newest development at the Rox Penthouse or Rox Apartment, where you'll be able to gaze out over the city streets of storied MidTown.

The visionary design for these four unique enclaves is one of mixed-use materials that nurture a layered and warm ambience. These dreamy enclaves immerse you right in the city, while still allowing a private sanctuary to retreat to at the end of the day, and sleep soundly.

The Tasman

The Tasman

One of Tasmania’s newest hotels is also fast becoming one of the country’s most coveted. The Tasman is a stone’s throw from Hobart's bustling working waterfront, and the heritage building has been architecturally designed and exceptionally refined to celebrate the city’s rich history. In the hotel’s finest suite, The St David’s Park Suite, the ceiling has been crafted from some of the first ships that arrived in Hobart. Beautiful textures and furnishings make this place a standout, and expansive views allow you to nestle in while watching the world — and the sometimes wild weather — go by.

Downstairs you’ll find Peppina’s, an inspired restaurant by Massimo Mele that’s a nod to both the finest Tasmanan produce and Massimo’s Italian heritage. The cosy speakeasy-inspired bar Mary Mary is the perfect place for a tipple and something light to eat, heroing native ingredients to create their bespoke and classic cocktails.

Bay of Fires
Bay of Fires

Bay of Fires Bush Retreat

Set among the bush, with white sand, deep blue water and iconic orange boulders just on the doorstep, Bay of Fires Bush Retreats is one of Tasmania’s most exciting luxury stays. Dreamt up by Anna Hoffmann and her partner Tom Dicker, it combines a love of travel, nature, great food, and clever design.

Super comfortable and surprisingly spacious Bell Tents — complete with pillow-top king beds, heaters, hot water bottles and crisp white sheets — is where you’ll rest your weary head after making the most of what the area has to offer.

Architecturally designed communal facilities, including a kitchen area and fire pits, are a place to gather, and there you’ll find a thoughtfully curated honesty bar stocked full of local wines, beers and cider. Tom, a chef, has curated (and prepared) food options including dips, pickles and garden pesto as well as ready-to-go hearty meals. Toasted marshmallows by the fire are the perfect nightcap.

Waking up to the sunshine and bird noises is great for the soul, while Ritual Coffee and a Bush Retreat Breakfast platter firmly cement this spot among Tassie’s best luxury accommodation.
