The Locals

Catering well to all ages, Rockingham offers a wide range of amenities ranging from shopping centres, excellent schools, dozens of eateries, an active outdoor lifestyle and parks, including the Baldivis Children’s Forest spanning 20 hectares over a conservation reserve with walking trails. Much of Rockingham’s appeal lies along the coast, where you can visit over 1,000 resident penguins on Penguin Island, snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Shoalwater Marine Park or relax along Rockingham’s Foreshore. Rockingham might hold a sleepy charm for some, but there are plenty of activities to get your heart racing, such as kiteboarding, jetpacking, surfing, waterskiing and skydiving.

For those considering a move, living in Quinns Rocks offers a similar coastal lifestyle with a quieter, relaxed atmosphere, yet still close to all the action of nearby areas like Rockingham. Embracing an active lifestyle, Rockingham has several trails connecting walkers to nature and WA’s multicultural identity. These trails include the Waterfront Heritage Trail, Tramway Reserve Trail, Baldivis Nature Reserve Trail, Don Shepherd Nature Reserve and Nyoongar Trail, and the Southern Coastal Ward Walk.

Living in Quinns Rocks also means you can enjoy all the benefits of nature, outdoor recreation, and a family-friendly community, with the convenience of being close to city amenities when you need them. Those lucky enough to live within staggering distance of the many eateries lining Rockingham’s foreshore certainly have a wide range of cuisines to choose from, including Asian, Spanish, cafes and quaint fish and chips.

Area Features

Quinns Beach

Combined with the offshore reefs protecting the beach from high waves and ongoing patrol by the Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club, Quinns Beach is safe for swimming and families. Stretching for 950 metres of powdery white sand, this beach is the makings of postcards for people of all abilities as the City of Wanneroo has wheelchairs for hire known as the Beach Trekker designed to travel over sand. Keep an eye out for migrating whales between May and December often visible with the naked eye or binoculars.

Quinns Dog Beach

Situated at the northern section of Quinns Beach, the Quinns Rock Dog Beach has over one kilometre of waves and sand to explore and plenty of new furry friends to make. It’s worth remembering to avoid the beach at the hottest time of the day, especially for your pampered pooch’s paws.

Frederick Stubbs Park

Perched on the edge of Quinns Beach, this small park is right on the coast and has an excellent playground and a small grassed area. Across the road is Blue Vue Café, perfect for breakfast or lunch or as a treat to negotiate with the little ones when it’s time to leave those azure views. It’s easy to see why this is a popular spot for birthday parties and playdates.

Alkimos Shipwreck

The coastline is scattered with shipwrecks and in 1963, the SS Alkimos sunk off the coast of Quinns Beach. With part of the engine remaining above the water, the wreck provides good diving opportunities, subject to the weather. Originally constructed in 1943, it is believed to be haunted due to a series of deaths and disasters and was later re-christened as Viggo Hansteen

Many of the locals are long-term residents, and as a result, a tight-knit community has evolved. The slow pace and safe neighbourhood appeals to retirees and families, many who move to the area for the schools, including Peter Moyes Anglican Community School in nearby Mindarie.
