The Locals

Life in Templestowe has something for everyone. It perfectly combines natural beauty, a close-knit community, and city convenience, making it a much-loved place to live for those seeking a relaxed yet connected lifestyle in Melbourne. The suburb’s natural beauty is one of its biggest attractions, surrounded by lush greenery and the winding Yarra River, creating a serene and calming atmosphere for residents. Outdoor lovers can explore the numerous parks, reserves, and walking trails, perfect for strolls or running. Westerfolds Park, in particular, offers breathtaking views, picnic areas, and a children’s playground. On the weekends, locals gather at Westerfolds Park for the weekly park run, which kicks off every Saturday. There’s even a 2-km run for kids on Sundays.

Living in Templestowe means enjoying elevated views, as the area is perched 50 metres above sea level, offering some of the best vistas of the sparkling cityscape.

The area has an impressive selection of top schools, including five state schools (Serpell, Templestowe Heights, Templestowe Park, and Templestowe Valley) and two Catholic primary schools (Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Kevin’s).

In terms of housing, Templestowe has a large offering to cater for every stage of life, from stylish apartments to sprawling family homes on acre blocks and retirement homes. Templestowe is close to the Eastern Freeway, so you can drive into Melbourne’s CBD within 25 minutes.

Residents flock here for the slower tempo, with many agreeing it’s got all the charm of a small country town, but it’s still close enough to the action of Melbourne’s CBD if you want it. Plus, it’s close to Westfield Doncaster and the Templestowe Village Shopping Centre.

Living in Templestowe offers the perfect balance of tranquility and convenience, allowing residents to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Templestowe also has a thriving local food scene, which has been on an upward trajectory in recent years. Local favourites include the Templestowe Hotel (or as it’s affectionately called ‘The Tempy’) which has been a mainstay in the hood since 1868 and is the perfect place for a hearty pub feed, Down The Rabbit Hole, a popular cafe that is best known for their bronuts (a brownie/doughnut hybrid), and Miss Kneady, which does the best Italian in town.
