In search of a large family home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, it was an easy choice when this architectural gem in the leafy waterside suburb of Clareville became available. With the glistening waters of Pittwater and the native bushland of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park as its backdrop, the modern design sits calmly in its lush surrounds.

Known as The Jetty House, this modern abode takes in the natural beauty of this relatively unknown pocket of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. A place where Fairy Penguins playfully waddle along the sandy shoreline, tropical greenery and native bushland abound, and boats glide unhurriedly along the calm waters. It’s little wonder that a growing family was eager to snatch up their slice of Clareville’s tranquil and captivating lifestyle.

All of this, coupled with the surrounding beaches (Avalon, Bilgola and Newport), a family-oriented community, and the home’s scenic location offered a dream scenario for the family after living abroad in Asia. Now, pulled away from this retreat-style living due to work and school commitments, the Inner West-based family have transformed their forever home into an Airbnb property (for now) with a barefoot luxe.

THE STYLE

Far from your average beachside getaway, The Jetty House sense of comfort and luxury emanates from every part of the home. From the moment you step through the front door, the design goal was to make you feel like you were instantly on holidays. And, that is exactly what interior stylist and photographer Natalie Spadavecchia from The Palm Co, set about doing for her client across the homes three levels.

Light-filled and effortlessly stylish, the homes sleek modern design is decorated with earthy and textured materials such as rattan and timber, with a hint of modern Balinese that nods to the family’s time in Asia. Organic tones and coastal hues reflect the surrounding landscape, yet they don’t detract from the view. Nothing in the home is jarring; even the natural wall hangings sit harmoniously within the space.

THE HOUSE

With walls of glass in every room, each of the five bedrooms has views over Pittwater, but none are quite like the master bedroom. Uninterrupted views from a king-size bed is an ideal way to start the day. While each of the other four bedrooms was built the same but styled slightly different – keeping in with the modern beach theme, some of the rooms have bed heads, others pieces of natural art, but all with linen in different tones.

On the ground level, the spacious open-plan living area continues the laidback coastal luxe look. Defined zones for the kitchen, sitting, dining and lounge all features pieces from homewares stores such as Sonder + Stone, The Cover Collective, Feather & Oak, The Beach People, Milk & Sugar, Aura and Country Road. And again, the floor to ceiling windows take advantage of the home’s Pittwater location, opening out onto an expansive deck with a 10m lap pool and steps that lead to the garden.

The oversized playroom in the basement which runs the length of the house is every kid’s dream, video games, toys, plush couches and plenty of room to run amuck. The stunning Ananbo jungle wallpaper, shipped over from Bordeaux, France and the in-home cinema is a big pull for the adults as well. It’s the perfect hangout space for wet weather or windy days, any other time, outside is the place to be.

THE OUTDOORS

From the outside lawn to the public beach, swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are favourite pastimes. Walk the foreshore and launch your boat or dive off the jetty. A blissful way to spend the day, especially from the boatshed positioned at the end of the property on the water’s edge. A coveted space that not only has a practical function of housing the kayaks and water equipment, hidden behind sheer curtains, but also designed for entertaining and relaxation, from the large dining table to barbeque and fridge. Plus, a hanging chair that’s highly prized for its tranquillity, especially with a ros in hand at sunset.

Although there is very little reason ever to leave The Jetty House, when you do, Clareville offers up an incredible nature-bound lifestyle. And just around the corner is the community vibe of Avalon village, with its on-trend cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping, and of course, the picture-perfect golden sand beach.
