Home Tour: Art House

A bold interplay of form and feeling defines this dynamic Bondi home, blending sleek design, layered warmth, and curated character.

When a busy professional couple with two kids moved into this Bondi home in 2021, they quickly filled it with furniture — but something was still missing. While the house had gorgeous bones, it lacked the personality that would make it feel like their own. Enter Claudia Lambert, Head of Studio at Claudia Lambert Interiors, who brought the space to life.

It was actually the couple’s teen daughter who encouraged them to take the leap and give the home a makeover. “The bones are gorgeous, lots of concrete and wood, so my job was easy — putting a beautiful outfit on a model,” says Claudia.

The seeds of inspiration

“We began with art, as I love to do,” she explains. “Once we bought that first piece (Belem Lett), the ball was rolling. We used it as a palette.” From there, the design took shape, pulling together cool concrete, warm wood, and natural stone to create a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere.

The design quickly evolved into something truly special. Claudia, known for her ability to bring out the best in a space, focused on creating a dynamic flow that wasn’t just visually striking but also functional for family life. “We chose the slab for its movement and energy,” she says of the custom-made dining table by Nomi. “It plays off the cool concrete and warm wood, balancing browns in the stone with lavender and chrome chairs — such a lovely mix.”

The power of texture

The home feels alive with colour and texture at every turn, but the vibe shifts as you move from room to room. The basement, for example, was transformed into a cinematic retreat, drenched in rich blues that set the perfect mood for movie nights. “The basement became a whole new vibe with the use of deep blues,” says Claudia. “It’s a place to relax and unwind, with layers of texture that feel luxurious yet comfortable.”

The carefully chosen materials bring a sense of warmth without sacrificing the home’s sleekness. “There are plenty of hard lines, so I used curved edges where I could in order to soften the space,” Claudia shares. From the living room to the dining area, everything has been designed with both form and function in mind. “I wanted the space to feel dynamic with plenty of places for the eye to travel,” she adds.

The he[art] of the project

It’s clear that the art played a crucial role in shaping the entire atmosphere. Claudia’s approach to curating the collection was a hands-on, immersive process. “I’m most proud of it,” she shares. “This is sometimes the hardest part, but my client was open to all genres, and we had a great time falling deeply for all the works in the home.” For Claudia, art isn’t just décor — it’s the soul of the space.

Even the smallest changes made a huge impact, like the window treatments. “It was an absolute game changer,” Claudia admits, referring to the decision to swap black roller blinds for soft cream linen sheers from DrapeCo. “Something the client wholeheartedly agrees with.” That shift alone softened the light and brought a sense of warmth to the space that hadn’t been there before.

Ultimately, this home strikes the perfect balance between high design and true comfort. As Claudia says, “Houses are to be well lived in — sit on the good sofa, use the expensive throw, light the good candle.” And in this Bondi beauty, every corner invites you to do just that — live beautifully.
