When it comes to education, West Launceston’s proximity to the city means children are only a short walk or bus ride from school. West Launceston Primary School is situated in the heart of the suburb on Basin Road and is highly regarded within the community. Secondary school-aged children can easily travel to prestigious Scotch Oakburn College or Launceston Church Grammar School.
One of the biggest appeals of West Launceston is its location. Just 5 minutes from the city, you’re never far from shopping, cafes and restaurants, and medical facilities. Launceston General Hospital is located just outside of West Launceston.
While West Launceston is limited when it comes to dining, on the edge of the suburb you’ll find Cuccina Café, a popular breakfast, brunch and lunch spot. Launceston CBD has a multicultural mix of restaurants, bars and cafes just a short drive away. Many of Launceston’s best restaurants are located just past Cataract Gorge overlooking the Tamar River.

CATARACT GORGE
Strap on your sneakers and head to the city’s famous Cataract Gorge, which is just down the hill from West Launceston.
Stunning peacocks roam the Gorge area, which boasts the world’s longest single span chairlift, a huge outdoor swimming pool, kiosk, restaurant, a swinging suspension bridge and spectacular views.
