Where to Find the Best Sunday Roasts in Canberra

After the best Sunday roast in Canberra? Don’t worry, we’ve got you (and your appetite) covered.

On a cold Canberra Sunday, nothing beats a warming roast – complete with succulent meat, potato cooked in myriad ways, oozy gravy and a few bits of veg for good measure (as well as a Yorkshire pud if you really want to go all out).

And if you’re not quite up to putting one together yourself, you’ll be glad to know the national capital is home to several spots that do truly excellent Sunday roast specials. From fireside spots to cosy pubs, these are the places where you’ll find the best Sunday roast in Canberra.

Edgar’s Inn

Edgar’s Inn

Edgar’s is one of Canberra’s favourite spots, not least for its buzzy atmosphere and stellar food. The venue contains multiple spaces depending on what you’re after: an al fresco dining area, a cosy upstairs pub, a pizzeria and a wine bar.

Edgar’s roast offering is also great, particularly if you like variety. The menu changes every week, so you can return each Sunday for something entirely different. You also get sides and either a Furphy, house wine or soft drink included in the price. Bargain!

$25 per person

 From 12pm every Sunday

 1 Edgar Street, Ainslie

The Duxton

The Duxton

Absolutely everything on The Duxton’s menu is top-notch, so it’s little surprise the eatery’s Sunday roast is utterly delicious. Every Sunday, you can grab a very traditional roast consisting of lamb, potatoes, peas, carrots and a Yorkshire pudding, topped with mint sauce and gravy.

If that’s not enough food for you, you can either kick off your meal with one of The Duxton’s tasty starters (we love the BBQ king prawns with chilli, garlic butter and lemon) or a wintery dessert (apple and rhubarb crumble with vanilla custard gets our vote).

$29 per person

 From 12pm every Sunday

 8 Macpherson Street, O'Connor

The Alby

The Alby

The Alby is a relative newcomer to Canberra’s food and drink scene, but it’s already got a solid rep for its flavourful food, outstanding drinks and fun vibe.

Along with its great-value weekly lunch specials and generous happy hour deals, the venue does a glorious Sunday roast. For $26, you can get a different roast each week that comes with all the sides and the fine quality The Alby has become renowned for.

If you’re up for it, we recommend pairing your roast with a beer or glass of red from the eatery’s extensive drinks menu.

$26 per person

 From 12pm every Sunday

 45 Furzer Street, Phillip

Campbell & George

Campbell & George

Just over the NSW border in Canberra’s twin city Queanbeyan is where you’ll find another notable Sunday roast special.

Campbell & George also has a rotating roast roster (try saying that after a few Sunday beers) which changes each week. What does remain constant is the inclusion of sides and gravy, all for an excellent price of $17.50 for members or $20 for non-members. Plus, you can order the roast at either lunch or dinner, giving you more options to chow down.

From $17.50 per person

 12pm-2pm and 6pm-9pm every Sunday

Corner of Campbell and George Streets, Queanbeyan

Royal Hotel

Royal Hotel

OK, so technically the Royal is in Bowral, but if you’re ever doing a long weekend in the Southern Highlands, it’s well worth stopping in here for a Sunday roast.

Every Sunday evening, you can get a roast with all the trimmings (potatoes, greens, gravy and a Yorkshire pud) for just $27. The roast changes each week, too, so the next time you take a weekend jaunt to Bowral, you can enjoy something new.

While you’re there, make sure to check out our travel guide to the Southern Highlands for more top places to eat, drink, play and stay.

$27 per person

 Every Sunday night

255 Bong Bong Street, Bowral
