New Year’s Resolutions You’ll Actually Want to Keep
Making (and keeping!) resolutions should be a joy, not a drag. Here’s how we’re making them keepable in 2025.
Oh, the allure of a brand-new year and a blank slate… It’s hard to resist the urge to reinvent yourself, and it might just begin with a resolution or two. If the years bygone have you feeling like you’re doomed to fail, perhaps it’s time to reframe your resolutions.
Whilst it’s true that we could all probably benefit from a gym membership and some new healthy recipes in some regard, fitness and diet resolutions are just one small part of the bigger picture.
If feeling happier and healthier is on your vision board for 2025, there are some way more fun ways to make it happen, without signing a lock-in contract.
Here are some of the ways I’ll be resolving to make this year more exciting, energising, delicious and active, with some New Year's resolutions I’ll actually want to keep.
Go On Hikes
Brisbane is home to some wickedly beautiful hiking spots, many of these just a short drive out of the city in order to enjoy some stunning sunrise views. Going on a hike isn’t just a good workout, it’s also a tasty little snack of soul food.
The fresh morning area, the natural surroundings, and the sense of achievement, once the hike is complete, are a dopamine hit that’s hard to replicate. Plus, you can make this a double whammy by inviting friends or family along, turning it into a social catch-up, too!
Chase More Waterfalls
Why TLC advised us against this, I will never know. But nothing beats a walk to a waterfall. Whether you travel north or south of the city, many gorgeous waterfalls around Brisbane are worth travelling to.
Some require a bit of a hike before you reach your reward, but plenty of these waterfalls are easy to reach and make for a beautiful day spent out in nature.
Try New Restaurants
If you found yourself getting stuck in a foodie rut last year, let us lend you a helping hand. We’re always updating our guides to the best new bars, cafes and restaurants, so keep those pieces bookmarked and work your way through them.
Or, make sure you’re signed up for our email newsletter to receive all of the latest news right to your inbox.
And if you’re thinking this resolution might break the bank, it needn’t be the case! We’re always hunting down dining deals and cheap eats across the city to make going out achievable and affordable for everyone.
Try a Pilates Class
If you (like me) have seen hundreds of TikTok ‘get ready with me’ videos, chances are that a Pilates class is part of that morning agenda. After my 759th GRWM, I decided it was time to dust off the grippy socks, stop staying up late doomscrolling and start getting back into pilates.
If it’s been a while for you, why not try before you buy? Pilates has become so popular that there are a myriad of studios around for you to see which one is the right fit for your wellness routine.
After a few weeks of classes, my lower back pain subsided (yes, I can stand up at a gig for a few hours and not struggle!) and I could feel myself getting stronger. I guess I have the GRWM gals to thank for that one.
Read More Books
Trying to slow your mind down at the end of the day? Stop scrolling and start leafing through a book. There’s no need to go from zero to a hundred with an outrageous GoodReads goal, so maybe start by reading for ten minutes before bed or taking your book with you on your lunch break.
Reading helps improve your vocabulary, knowledge (handy for trivia nights) and comprehension, plus the time away from a screen will do your mind, eyes and hands wonders.
Take More Day Trips
Whether a Euro summer is on the 2025 vision board or not, making time to be a tourist is your own back yard is an amazing way to make sure that you haven’t wasted a weekend. You can head a couple of hours in any direction and have the most incredible time on a dreamy day trip from Brisbane.
