Just steps from Airlie Beach, surrounded by palm trees and sunbathing lawns, this admission-free lagoon is a lovely spot to enjoy some fun in the sun. Multiple depths cater to everyone, from the little ones to those keen to get a few laps in. And when you’re ready for a snack, make the most of the free BBQs or zip over to the local cafe.

Explore Cedar Creek Falls

This beautiful watering hole can be found at the end of a winding path and is the perfect place for a refreshing dip in the freshwater or under the waterfall. You’ll be surrounded by lush greenery and the zen-like sounds of nature as the native birds and butterflies flit about amongst the flora.

Honeyeater Lookout

This 3.6km return walk is a great way to start the day if you’re looking for a challenge. The steep hike will take you through Conway National Park and land you at Honeyeater Lookout where you’re invited to gaze out across to the Whitsundays and the crystalline waters of Pioneer Bay. A worthy reward! If you’re visiting between February and August, keep an eye out for flowering coastal banksia and the little honeyeaters that feast upon them.

Hit the Beach

Cannonvale Beach is a great spot for little ones or anyone looking for a relaxed stretch of sand a step away from the crowds. You’ll be treated to views out to the Whitsunday Islands (a perfect spot to take in sunset), as well as rockpools and play areas. There’s also a stinger net in place in the summer months, so you’re safe to take a refreshing dip!

Boathaven Beach is another is another nearby stretch of sand, perfect for a day of swimming and picnicking.

Hop over to Hamilton Island

If you’re looking to extend your trip, consider a day trip or overnight stay on Hamilton Island or another of the Whitsunday Islands. Cruise Whitsundays operate a daily service with a journey time of just over an hour. Explore the white sands of Whitehaven, take in the view from Hill Inlet, explore rock pools, coral reefs and soak up the sunshine.
