To help you on your way, we’ve uncovered the best wineries in Queensland to discover a new favourite drop. Most of these stunning destinations are only a short day trip from Brisbane or are located in destinations worth lingering in for a little longer. Summit Estate | Thulimbah
Showcasing award-winning wines of elegance and complexity, Summit Estate focuses on aromatic European and Mediterranean varieties, whilst actively working on the Strange Birds experience that has become popular amongst other Granite Belt wineries. If you’re not familiar with the Strange Birds philosophy, it is the name given to alternative wine varieties grown on the Granite Belt. Wine may only be classed so if it represents less than one per cent of Australia’s vines.

Tobin Wines | Ballandean
The place to visit for a taste of the Granite Belt in a glass! Tobin Wines focuses on an ‘old-world’ approach to winemaking. All respect is paid to the vineyard to ensure a quality drop from its absolute origins. Says winemaker Adrian Tobin of his work, “No winemaker is gifted enough to make those wonderful flavours & aromas — all of the work happens out there, in the vineyard”. With varietals limited to 100-160 cases each per year, we recommend high-tailing it to Tobin Wines to taste the best of Ballandean’s wine on your next adventure.

Witches Falls Winery | Mount Tamborine
One of Mount Tamborine’s most popular tourist spots is Witches Falls Winery, now one of Queensland’s largest wine producers. What makes Witches Falls so special is the philosophy they embody, merging traditional techniques and a minimal-intervention approach with state-of-the-art procedures to guarantee a beautiful result. Using natural yeast to yield wines with interesting textures and character, we recommend trying the Wild Ferment range for a true Witches Falls Winery experience.

Dingo Creek Vineyard | Traveston
Nestled between Mary Valley and Cooloola, Dingo Creek Vineyard is one of the best wineries to visit in Queensland for beautiful, boutique wine. With their first vines planted in 1997 across their 26-acre property, the Dingo Creek team are currently producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The Cellar Door deck offers uninterrupted views of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, so your visit to this incredible vineyard is destined to be a feast for all of the senses. There are also charcuterie boards on offer and live music on the weekends, to make this winery visit a time to remember.

Flame Hill Vineyard | Montville
Experience the authentic paddock-to-plate experience at Flame Hill Vineyard, in the gorgeous surroundings of Montville. Located on the highest point in Montville on the Blackall Range, Flame Hill ethically and sustainably produces its wines entirely on-site and also produces fruit and vegetables for use in its kitchen and restaurant.

Kooroomba | Boonah
Surrounded by a stunning lavender farm, Kooroomba really sets the standard high for a picturesque vineyard visit. The cellar door here offers a free wine tasting with any purchase, which really sounds like a wine win-win. The tastings are available from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am, and we recommend making the day trip with enough time to explore the lavender fields and dine at the restaurant.

Ballandean Winery | Granite Belt
Spanning generations of winemaking tradition, the Ballandean Winery was established in 1932 before opening a cellar door to the public in 1970. The award-winning wines made here are often bottled by the same hands that tended the vines and produced the wine. You can explore part of the Granite Belt’s Strange Bird Wine Trail, which allows you to experience thirty different varietals across the Granite Belt’s wine producers. What an adventure!

Perfect for the great lovers of wine and food, Heritage Estate Winery is known for its gourmet eight-course degustation events held each month, as well and lunch and dinner bookings taken five days per week. Not only have their wines won multiple awards, but the restaurant has an Australian Good Food Guide People’s Choice Award on its trophy shelf. With two vineyards producing white and red varietals, Heritage Estate is an excellent example of the incredible produce Australia has to offer.
