Beauty Trend Forecast: What to Look Out for in 2022

From beauty tech to the online beauty boom, everyone’s obsession with beauty won’t slow down in 2022, and these are the beauty trends to watch.

While 2021 didn’t leave us a lot of room to experiment with many beauty looks thanks to mask-wearing and our staying-home orders, 2022 looks like it may be the year to ditch DIY beauty to the curb. Plus skin clinics and beauty salons have reopened which means there’s no need for us to go there. However, that doesn’t mean that at-home beauty tech and the online beauty world will stop their boom – exactly the opposite actually. So what are some beauty trends we can look forward to in the next year? Let’s chat about them below.

Inclusivity

If a brand wants to make it in 2022 they better be inclusive, gender inclusive, colour inclusive and corners cannot be skipped – because people will notice. If the last few years have taught us anything it’s that there’s been a massive shift in the space of inclusivity. Gender lines are blurred and brands have started creating products that are very neutral – and that is here to stay.

TikTok Skincare Trend Expansion

TikTok skincare trends have only started and in 2022 they won’t be slowing down. Gen Z is very into skincare and of course that’s thanks to the social media boom. Which is great because instilling good skincare habits early on (like wearing SPF) is vital.

However, that does mean wading through viral skincare hacks that really won’t do much for the skin – except provide a little entertainment while we watch. Additionally, this means beauty brands better be advertising to the teen market because that is where the attention is.

Minimal, Evidence-based Skincare Routines

Science is cool again, and everyone currently wants to understand the how and why behind the products they’re putting on their skin and in the new year this thirst for knowledge is only going to grow. Evidence based skincare is having a moment, and while 2021 did see everyone pare back their skincare routines to be minimal, 2022 is going to continue this trend but with skincare that has evidence to back up its claims because everyone is starting to push past the beauty marketing, nobody has time or money to waste (and everyone wants things to work!)

Celebrity Skincare Lines (won’t stop)

While we may all be a little tired of celebrities releasing beauty products, this trend doesn’t look like it’s slowing down in the new year. Gwen Stefani has already trademarked a brand and the world is forever waiting for Hailey Bieber’s Rhode to be launched. Which only makes us think that the celebrity beauty trend is bound to stick around a little bit longer.

Body Sculpting Procedures

Easy body sculpting procedures that are semi-painless and have minimal downtime have been some of the most searched beauty terms for the past two years. And with technology only getting better, these procedures will remain popular.

Beauty Technology Boom

Everybody loved becoming their own beautician during lockdown (although many had to), however, virtual online beauty experiences, consultations and high tech gadgets will remain – if not just get better. Beauty brands are already offering online walkthrough shopping experiences, and with technology only improving, at home beauty and the way we shop and consult with professionals will continue to change and grow.
