Randwick Suburb Profile
With 29 km of beach (including Coogee and Maroubra beaches) on one side and the expansive Centennial Park on the other, living in Randwick is one of the most visited tourist areas outside central Sydney.
Randwick has set itself up to cater to the varying educational and medical institutions within its bounds – prestigious University of New South Wales, Prince of Wales Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Women, Prince Henry Hospital, and Sydney Children’s Hospital. Running through the centre of Randwick is Belmore Street, the main commercial hub that is well equipped with two shopping centres that are surrounded by a mishmash of independent and franchise stores.
Under heritage conservation, The Spot is an entertainment area. The landmark Art Deco building that houses The Ritz cinema remains true to its cinematic and architectural roots, whilst the surrounding cafés, restaurants, and bars bring their own level of quirkiness to this vibrant block.
Although it’s serious business for students at the numerous academic institutions, come springtime and all eyes turn to the Royal Randwick Racecourse, where crowds are mesmerised by the speed and agility of thoroughbred horses. In more recent times, autumn is upping the ante on the horse racing season, drawing crowds to see trainers and jockeys vie for $18 million prize money.
No matter what your interest or purpose, Living in Randwick makes it easy to feel at home in this all-embracing neighbourhood.
