The three suburbs can be described as commuter towns. They're home to many professionals and tradesmen, and the majority of them travel to nearby Wollongong or Sydney for work. This is made easy by the public transport system – there are train stations in Scarborough, Wombarra and Stanwell Park that operate services north and south.
There are a few cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, shops and pubs in the area, and more in neighbouring Thirroul, Coledale and Helensburgh. The Scarborough Hotel and The Bowlo are among the most popular hangouts, and both reflect the area's friendly, community spirit.
Neighbours
The suburbs attract slightly different groups of people. Scarborough has a younger demographic – it's made up of families, couples and singles. There's a good chance your neighbours would commute to and from Wollongong or Sydney, and appreciate coming home to a laid-back lifestyle. In Wombarra and Stanwell Tops, the population tends to be a little older and more family oriented.
