10 of the Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Sydney

Sydney’s vibrant vegetarian scene is not to be underestimated; a growing demand for high quality vegetarian has seen the industry flourish and we couldn’t be more pleased about it. Below are the places we frequent when a meat-free meal is high on the agenda.

Vina’s Vegan

This Newtown haunt is all about Vietnamese cuisine that will satisfy every vegetarian’s palate. The ‘roll it yourself’ rice paper wraps with vegan BBQ chicken or vegan beef, salad and dipping sauce add a little DIY excitement to the meal.

395 King Street, Newtown

INDU has established itself as a firm favourite for its innovative southern Indian cuisine. They are all about bringing an authentic dining experience to diners. The menu is littered with delicious vegetarian dishes - our suggestion is to head straight for the devilled pumpkin curry with ginger, coconut chutney, eshallots and fresh coconut.

350 George Street, Sydney

Nourishing Quarter

Offering an uncommon but surprisingly exciting fusion of Vietnamese cuisine and South American grains, Nourishing Quarter’s vegetarian dining options are anything but bland. You’ll no doubt be as taken with the dishes as you are with the menu’s colourful descriptions; the amaranth and quinoa noodles with crispy tofu lingerings is a house favourite.

315 Cleveland Street, Redfern

Two Chaps

Effortlessly cool, this Marrickville institution takes a sustainable approach to every aspect of its operation. Fresh handmade pasta is a strong point of the Thursday and Friday set menu, while the lunch menu makes a strong case for the fried rice bowl with chilli, ginger, soy, Chinese broccoli, snake beans and two fried eggs.

122 Chapel Street, Marrickville

Yellow’s 100% vegetarian menu focuses on treating vegetables with the same consideration as protein – demonstrating their versatility without sacrificing on flavour. Offering both vegan and vegetarian tasting menus and à la carte options, you’ll be treated to creations including the zucchini, sunflower and quinoa.

57 Macleay Street, Potts Point

Renowned among the foodie circuit for its contemporary take on traditional Lebanese cuisine, Nour is a Lebanese restaurant, but not as you know it. A thoughtful yet creative menu, for meat-free diners you cannot go past their halloumi or falafel dishes. Our top pick? The wood fired figs with date challah, halloumi and black garlic.

Shop 3, 490 Crown Street, Surry Hills

The Gantry

The Gantry’s Vegetarian Tasting menu is a six-plate meal loaded with wholesome nourishment – when has sheep cheese agnolotti, legumes and thyme looked so good? The strawberry with black sesame, raspberry, and shiso is the perfect sweet note to finish.

11 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay

Gigi Newtown

Controversially going vegan in 2015, Gigi’s pizzas buck the trend and have maintained their impeccable reputation despite a lack of cheese. Kick things off with the crocchettes di patate and an AVPN (Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana) approved Cavolo with cauliflower puree, artichokes, pinenuts, capers, currants, garlic and parsley.

379 King Street, Newtown

Lentil as Anything

With a pay-as-you-feel policy, Lentil as Anything does not-for-profit dining to an impressively high standard from breakfast through to dinner. While menus change weekly, you’ll likely find a Sri Lankan curry plate with rice salad and poppadom, Malaysian laksa with pumpkin, snowpeas and crispy tofu or a Moroccan chickpea and vegetable tagini.

391 King Street, Newtown

If you fancy your vegetarian dishes with a glass of rosé, then make a direct line to Yulli’s. Gluten-free and vegan options are available in an eclectic but surprisingly harmonious melange of Asian, Moroccan and Mexican styles. The four-course banquet menu is perfect if you need a little guidance.

417 Crown Street, Surry Hills
