GET TO KNOW
THE AREA
A dreamy beachside destination that graces many a postcard, Hyams Beach is a little slice of paradise on the South Coast of New South Wales. Beautifully positioned along the shores of Jervis Bay, this is where native bushland spills over onto white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Peaceful, quiet, and simply stunning, Hyams Beach is one good looking town.
Lifestyle
As one of Jervis Bay’s most photogenic beaches, Hyams Beach is a must-visit part of the region. Quiet, secluded and mesmerisingly pretty, Hyams Beach is a haven, not only for wildlife but for those who want the feeling of being away from it all.
The town itself is small (meaning no shopping village), boasting several streets of towering gum trees and beachside abodes.
The town’s one cafe – the popular Hyams Beach Store and Café – spins out an all-day menu, including the ever-popular fish n’ chips, which is a huge crowd-pleaser. But with Vincentia and Huskisson close at hand, locals are never left wanting.

On land, Hyams Beach Trail and White Sands Walk takes you through beautiful bushland that is teeming with wildlife, and out to vantage points that soak up some incredible views. Booderee National Park is home to the regions whitest and most pristine beaches – Greenpatch and Murrays Beach, plus many hiking and bike trails that lead to lookouts, such as Cape St George Lighthouse (perfect for whale watching).
Jervis Bay Marine Park is also at its doorstep with diving and snorkelling spots that will have you swimming amongst bottlenose dolphins and fur seals. And when in season, cruises and chartered boats ferry people out to view the majestic whales that go about their annual migration.
Perfectly positioned in the Shoalhaven region, Hyams Beach is equal distance from Sydney and Canberra (two-and-a-half-hour drive either way). It is a popular summertime destination, but year-round, it’s a stunning haven away from it all.
