All year round, ocean swimmers can be found swimming from headland to headland or in the ocean pool in preparation for the annual The Macquarie Big Swim: Palm to Whale Beach race. This race is one of five in the Pittwater Ocean Swim Series and, since its inception in 1974, sees competitors swim 2.8km point-to-point, from the Palm Beach Pavillion to the middle of Whale Beach.

Out of the water, the ocean views can be enjoyed from Little Head and Malo Reserve, which form part of the Palm Beach to Avalon Walk and, if you get your timing right in the winter, you will have the perfect spot to see migrating whales and dolphins.

Set back away from the beach up on the hill you will find a renowned fine dining restaurant and boutique hotel, Jonah's. Known for their seasonally-led cuisine and five-star guest experience, the unrivalled views over Whale Beach are something else.

Combine all of this with the shopping convenience of nearby Avalon village and the great cafes and restaurants in neighbouring Palm Beach, it is easy to see why locals love living in Whale Beach, one of the Northern Beaches' best-kept secrets.
