Lifestyle
The sounds of the Australian bush and towering eucalyptus trees give way to Berrima, a small, historic town in the Southern Highlands. Berrima Village on the Old Hume Highway has charming cafés and teahouses, art galleries and speciality stores. But it’s the beautiful sandstone structures that speak to a bygone era.
A weekend destination, and for the lucky few, a place to call home, Berrima is considered one of the most well-preserved Georgian villages on the Australian mainland. The streets are adorned with beautiful buildings – the Berrima District Museum and the National Trust-listed Harper’s Mansion are just moments from the historic court house and gaol, and a short walk to The Surveyor General Inn, Australia’s oldest continuously licensed inn. The village offers fine dining, boutique shopping, and nostalgic specialty stores.
