Sydney's Best Sunday roasts that might just rival your mum's.

There's no better way to end a weekend than with a mouth-watering Sunday roast in Sydney. From succulent roast chicken to slow-cooked sirloin, Sunday lunch isn't complete without a plate of meat and gravy. Or, if you're so inclined, a hunk of roast pumpkin and all the trimmings.

Want to know which ones are worth booking? These establishments have not only mastered the traditional roast, but they take it to a whole new level. Below are some of our favourite places to hang out come Sunday afternoon.

Forrester's

Forrester's

We all quietly recognise that the Yorkie is the best part of the Sunday roast. Forrester's agree and have decided to supersize things for maximum enjoyment. Forrester's big Yorkie has been so successful that they're now offering it every day until sold out.  So, what can you expect? A portion of the roast of the week, mashed potatoes, peas and other vege, all encased in the biggest Yorkshire pudding you've ever seen. Winter has peaked.

Rocker Bondi

Pair a sunset over Bondi with a killer roast dinner and you may just have the perfect Sunday. With wagyu beef rump, crispy pork belly and maple spiced roast pumpkin to choose from, each tasty dinner at Rocker Bondi comes with all the trimmings - we're talking roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, honey-roasted carrots and of course, an epic gravy. This year, they've introduced the BIG roast, featuring both beef and pork and all the sides and important condiments.

Every Sunday from 12 pm

5/39-53 Campbell Parade, North Bondi

The Royal Paddington

The Royal Paddington

The Royal Paddington's Sunday royal roast is the big, hearty comfort meal you need in your life. The Royal will be rotating between Wagyu topside MB4+ and a half chicken each week. Whichever you're lucky enough to snag, you can expect generous portions of fluffy Yorkshire puddings, beef dripping roast potatoes, honey-roasted carrot, sauteed sprouts, cabbage and bacon and gravy.

237 Glenmore Road, Paddington

The Duke of Clarence

The Duke of Clarence

Nestled in an alleyway next to The Barber Shop, The Duke of Clarence offers a quintessentially British experience in the heart of the CBD - where else to grab a superb Sunday roast?! This 19th-century-inspired English tavern offers an entire Sunday roast menu with beef sirloin, porchetta, lamb and pumpkin plates up for grabs. Their add-on menu is just as delightful with pigs in blankets, Yorkies and Brussel sprouts and bacon just a few of the options available.

The Old Fitz

The Old Fitz

What's better than a roast with all the trimmings? Said roast accompanied by live jazz. This winter, The Old Fitz is serving a choice of three roasts -crackling pork belly, chicken Maryland and slow-roasted Japanese squash - with all the trimmings. We're talking crispy roast potatoes, carrots, seasonal greens and the all-important fluffy Yorkshire pudding. Pop by between 2pm and 5pm for live jazz and if you're lucky, you might even score a table near the roaring log fire.

Franca (Image Credit: Declan Blackall Photography)

Franca

For those keen to indulge in a French spin on the classic Sunday roast, Franca is your destination. You'll need to gather your pals for this one but it will be well worth it. Serving 3-4, the Chateaubriand 600g tenderloin ($199) comes drizzled in sauce Diane and is served with a range of seasonal sides. Add Foie Gras Poêlé for an additional $25.

81 Macleay Street, Potts Point

Endeavour Tap Rooms

Fellow Brits (and Aussies) gather in tow for a taste of Endeavour Tap Rooms' classic English roast. Steeped in character, this cosy pub comes with all the trimmings. Dark woods, snug fireplaces and heritage finishes feature throughout, whilst local craft beers and and a weekly-changing menu of showstopping roasts provide the perfect recipe for a lazy Sunday feasting session. Settle in for the afternoon with a glass – or three – of red, and tuck into succulent cuts of roast chicken or beef, served with fluffy Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, seasonal veg and lashings of house-made gravy. Mmmm.

39/43 Argyle St, The Rocks

Four in Hand

This beloved Paddo spot is impeccably appointed with modern touches in a simple yet considered dining space. Come Sunday this local haunt turns into an afternoon hangout as diners wait to sample the Four in Hand’s delicious traditional feast for just $30. Serving up a delectable roast teamed with a Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings, you won’t want to be anywhere else each Sunday.

105 Sutherland Street, Paddington

Dove & Olive

Dove and Olive

Delicious, quirky, and innovative pub grub is the Dove and Olive’s mantra, but when it comes to the Sunday roast ($27.90), nothing but a classic approach will suffice. Get your fix of lamb, beef or veggie loaf with seasonal vegetables and all the trimmings, and $8 schooners to sweeten the deal. You’ll be eminently comfortable and reluctant to leave the charming establishment.
