Perth's playground scene is truly amazing. From interactive water features to epic climbing structures and some of the world’s best nature play, Perth is home to some incredibly imaginative, engaging, and downright awesome playgrounds. These are spaces where kids can challenge themselves physically, boost their confidence, and develop essential motor skills. They are also places of inclusivity, ensuring that every child, regardless of their abilities, can join in the fun.

We’ve rounded up some of Perth’s best playgrounds that go beyond the ordinary, inviting kids to embark on epic adventures, scale towering structures, and let their imaginations run wild.

BHP Billiton Water Park, Perth

Located at Elizabeth Quay, BHP Billiton Water Park is a super fun, interactive water play area with a series of jets and fountains. The water features are synchronised with music and lights, creating an exciting and dynamic environment for kids of all ages. The area is also surrounded by shaded seating areas for parents to relax while keeping a close watch on their kids. Options for lunch or an ice-cream are only steps away, so you can make a day of it.

Lake Monger Adventure Playground, Leederville

West Leederville’s Lake Monger playground offers a serene, lakeside environment with beautiful views. The playground includes swings, slides, a round-about and climbing structures, as well as a great nature play area with logs and rocks. The surrounding parkland provides ample space for picnics or wildlife spotting, or hop on bikes and scooters and ride around the lake, stopping at the lookout on the north side to enjoy views of the Perth city skyline. This is making it a really cute spot to stop for a play, or enjoy a day with the family.

Lycopod Island, Perth

May Drive Parkland is an area of Kings Park that the whole family will enjoy - nowhere is this more true than Lycopod Island. This little splash of fun amidst acres of green space is one of the best playgrounds in Perth for adventurous young explorers. Featuring a thrilling slide, a fireman's pole, a refreshing water play area with cool mist and ample puddles, as well as essential amenities like toilets, BBQs, and plenty of grass and shade, it's a haven for outdoor fun and youthful joy.

Braithwaite Park, Mount Hawthorn 

With plenty of open space and an incredible nature-based playground as well as a traditional playground, there’s plenty to keep kids of all ages busy at Braithwaite Park. The nature play area includes logs, water features, bamboo pods, stepping stones, ropes, obstacles and two flying foxes. The entire park is fenced, and you’ll also find barbecues, drink fountains, picnic tables and public toilets, making it an ideal spot for a picnic or birthday party.

Millet Park, Innaloo

Millet Park is known as ‘Spiderman Park’ by the locals, thanks to the enormous climbing ‘web’ that forms one of the park's main features. You’ll also find plenty of shady trees, a big open space, a small traditional playground that’s ideal for toddlers, and a brand new skate ramp and junior bike/scooter track.

Hyde Park, Perth

Hyde Park is a beautiful and tranquil inner-city park around a lake. It features an amazing water playground that’s popular in the summer months, as well as an accessible all-abilities playground with a Liberty swing, that allows children in wheelchairs the opportunity to experience the joy of having a swing in the park. The playground is designed to cater to all age groups, with a fun range of play structures, swings, and climbing equipment, as well as plenty of shady spots for parents and families to sit and watch!

Volcano Park (Faulkner Park), Belmont

Prepare for an eruption of excitement at the epic Volcano Park, featuring an awe-inspiring volcano centrepiece that kids will love. The volcano has a path that spirals to the top, and once there, kids can delight in the water mist that emerges from the top before taking one of the slides down. 

There’s loads of water play, sand play, a flying fox and plenty of playground equipment, even a separate area that’s perfect for toddlers. The playground is fully fenced and has two gated entrances, plus plenty of shaded seating. It's one of the 'hottest' playgrounds in Perth - everybody's talking about it!

Whale Playground, Scarborough 

Right on the beachfront in Scarborough, the magnificent Whale Playground showcases a colossal blue-and-white climbing frame designed in the shape of a whale skeleton. Kids’ imaginations will run wild as they navigate the structure; through the netting in the body of the whale, down the tunnel slide and across the monkey bars toward the bird's nest swing that hangs from the whale’s tailbone.  

The playground is scattered with other whale bones that kids can have fun with, as well as lots of soft sand and a big wooden fort with a cubby. There’s plenty of shade seating, toilet facilities and a long grassed area with BBQs.  

Pia’s Place, Whiteman Park

Nestled within the beautiful Whiteman Park, Pia's Place is a Perth playground that promises a world of wonder. This remarkable playground features a range of sensory-rich play equipment, wheelchair-accessible structures, and interactive elements that engage and delight kids of all ages. 

From accessible harness swings on the flying fox to quiet nooks and cosy corners, Pia's Place encourages children to explore, create, and connect in a supportive and inclusive environment. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Whiteman Park, this playground celebrates the diverse abilities of every child who visits.

Ninja Warrior Course Playground, Whitfords 

This unique obstacle-course playground is perfect for little ninjas, with an exciting range of challenges, ropes, obstacles and climbing structures to navigate. Kids can test their agility, strength, and coordination, all while having loads of fun. 

Spectators can watch all the action from seating that runs along one side, or the grassed area surrounding the course, as the kids tackle each challenge with determination, building their confidence and resilience.This course is the first of its kind in WA and the largest in Australia.

Dinosaur Park, Kingsway

Step back in time with your young paleontologists at the Kingsway Dinosaur Park. This prehistoric wonderland is filled with dinosaur-themed equipment, fossil excavations, dinosaur footprints throughout and fun adventure trails. Watch as your children become immersed in a world of Jurassic exploration, unleashing their imagination and fueling their curiosity about dinosaurs. 

There are balancing logs around the playground, rocks to climb, a musical play area and a water play feature. There’s also a bike path that runs through the length of the playground.

Jo Wheatley All Abilities Play Space, Nedlands 

This thoughtfully crafted playground in Perth is located on the Swan River in Nedlands, and features loads of inclusive equipment, sensory play areas, and wheelchair-accessible structures purpose built for all ages and abilities. There’s nature play, water and sand play, a big wooden structure with slides and a cubby house, even a game area with ping pong tables.

There are loads of different types of swings, a rope climbing net and a sensory garden with musical instruments, and one of the most popular attractions - a double flying fox. Plenty of picnic tables, grassed areas, lots of shady trees and toilet facilities make this an excellent spot for a day out.

Optus Stadium Sensory Playground, Burswood

This gated Perth playground at Stadium Park is designed to engage all the senses. Featuring loads of interactive play equipment, rope climbs, water play and an incredible flying fox, it’s giving hours of entertainment for kids of all ages. 

The playground has in-ground trampolines, a music zone and a unique foot-pump activated speaker that plays music and initiates games to delight the kids. Other features of the park include a basketball court, a round-about, and a sandpit with diggers. There are shaded tables and seating, and you can even take the scooters or bikes to check out all the parks and other hidden play gems around the Chevon Parkland.

Russell Brown Adventure Park, Mosman Park

Nestled on the river in Mosman Park, the Russell Brown Adventure Park is a hidden gem for active young explorers. It’s a nature playground full of climbing structures, swings, even a stream, to keep the kids entertained for hours. 

Kids can challenge themselves on the climbing walls, balance on logs, climb through netting or engage in friendly competitions on the expansive grassy areas. There are BBQ facilities and plenty of spots to picnic with some of Perth’s best river views.

Rio Tinto Naturescape, Kings Park

Escape the urban landscape and enter the natural wonderland of the Rio Tinto Naturescape in Perth’s iconic Kings Park. Nestled amongst towering trees and lush greenery, this world-class playground offers a serene, Australian bush environment for your little adventurers to connect with nature. Kids can scale the heights of The Bungarra and The Python, wade in the Paperbark Waterhole, get caught in a web in The Tangle, and disappear down The Burrow.
