Pearl

Pearl offers up a relaxed atmosphere alongside views of the Harbour Bridge, and their approach is simple - dim sum, barbecue and seafood designed to be shared. Keen to highlight unique Australian flavours and seasonal produce, the menu at Pearl is set shifts regularly but you can look forward to the likes of wok-fried Lobster with Pearl's signature XO sauce, caramelized BBQ pork belly and dry-aged, twice-cooked Peking duck pancakes. Queen Chow

Elegant yet casual, the sophisticated deep green timber and marble interiors of Queen Chow set the scene for an opulent affair. The menu embraces Australian culture around local, Chinese dining with reimagined fusion classics listed beside traditional Cantonese dishes. Come hungry and start with a selection of dim sum- the wild mushroom dumplings and prawn har gu go perfectly. For a group affair, a shared meal of mud crab, roast duck with plum sauce and black market Black Angus beef with king oyster mushroom and potato will do the trick.

Lucky Prawn

Lucky Prawn is a retro Australian-Chinese bistro located within the Iconic Bob Hawke's Leisure Centre in Marrickville. If you're craving Aussie 80s Chinese made well (who isn't?!), this is the place for you. The prawn toast is some of the best we've ever tasted and the crab omelette and mango pud are out of this world. Do yourself a solid and order Bob's Banquet at $55 a head for one of the best value meals you'll ever have.

Songbird

Songbird

The latest opening from beloved Australian chef Neil Perry, Songbird serves up classic Cantonese dishes using fresh Aussie produce and the result is a bit lovely. Having scored a hat within mere months of opening, this Double Bay newbie is already proving to be a favourite. Shallot and saltbush pancake with sweet soy, Peking duck with hoisin sauce and mandarin pancakes and stir-fried Copper Tree beef fillet with cumin and leeks are just a few of the divine dishes being served up.

China Lane

In the CBD, Angel Place is known for its distinctive birdcage display and for China Lane, a modern Chinese restaurant run by the good folk behind China Doll. Expect the classics served with a twist – think pulled pork bao with sriracha mayo and crispy shallots. The robata grilled lamb fillet has a spicy hit, as do the salt and pepper prawns with wok-smoked chilli.

Led by legendary chef Dan Hong, Mr Wong has a flash, Shanghai-inspired fit-out and the menu to match. The dim sum and the roasted Angus beef short rib hits the spot every time. For seafood lovers, the wok-fried mud crab is a must! Make sure to ask for lashings of the house-made XO sauce.

Shanghai Night

Shanghai Night

The streets of Ashfield are lined with Chinese restaurants, but Shanghai Night has been a crowd favourite since day one. The cheap and cheerful eatery serves up delicious dumplings in generous portions. Along with the usual offerings, there are lamb and beef morsels also on offer. When you’re dumpling-ed out, order the stir-fried noodles still hot from the wok.
