The Cut Bar & Grill

The Cut Bar & Grill

Adored for their signature prime rib and premium cuts of beef, The Cut Bar & Grill in the historic district of The Rocks is officially reopening on September 20, and you won't want to miss its refreshed menu.

The menu features premium, wood-fire-grilled meats, with a special emphasis on their exceptional steaks. The Coppertree Hereford grass-fed fillet, and the Westholme wagyu rib eye are standout cuts known for their rich marbling and deep flavour. The prime rib, slow-cooked to perfection, is another highlight, offering a tender, melt-in-your-mouth experience. Our top pick? The mouthwatering prime rib sandwich is filled with tender, slow-cooked Black Angus beef, caramelised onions and gruyère cheese.

There's a reason these guys have a reputation for doing the best steak in Sydney. Served in a moody, underground setting, The Cut delivers an unparalleled experience for discerning diners.

Poetica

Poetica is the refined, light-filled restaurant and bar you need in your life. The 120-seat space has made a big impression with a 700-bottle wine wall, dry-aging cabinets, and a 15-metre-long open kitchen.

The menu champions local produce and cooking methods that have endured —from pickling and fermenting to wood fire and charcoal.

Expect to see dry-aged sirloin, t-bone and a massive 1.5kg tomahawk cooking over the fire while your roasted eggplant is charred in the Josper.

The wine list features vintage gems and beloved classics, many of which pair brilliantly with one of the best steaks in Sydney. This is one for the bucket list!

The Gidley

Tucked away in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, The Gidley is a haven for those who truly appreciate a perfectly cooked cut. Recently clinching the number 24 spot on the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants list, The Gidley has earned its stripes as a go-to destination for Sydney’s steak aficionados.

But the delights don’t end there. The menu also boasts the Spinalis, a boneless ribeye chop draped in a rich bourbon glaze, often lauded as the most tender cut.

Whether you’re a seasoned steak connoisseur or just someone who knows the value of a well-executed dish, The Gidley delivers!

A plate of sliced steak and side dishes at Bistecca Sydney
Bistecca

Bistecca

This distinct, underground Italian steakhouse, bar and wine shop is well worth a mention in a roundup of the best steaks in Sydney.

Once you find the deliberately unmarked doorway in a CBD backstreet, you'll be led downstairs to a dimly lit room. We won't lie, finding your way isn't easy, but trust us, a steak tastes way better once you've earned it!

When it comes to the restaurant menu, less is more. Bistecca is solely dedicated to the art of the classic Tuscan steak dish, Bistecca alla Fiorentina.

Diners are invited to inspect their cut of meat, which is weighed tableside, while they peruse the long list of sides that can be paired with their steak.

An incredible restaurant experience should begin the moment you step through the doors. Rockpool will have your heart as soon as you step off of the bustling Sydney CBD streets into this classic Art Deco space.

Complete with marble pillars and sky-high ceilings, the steak and accompanying wine list will be the next thrilling discovery.

Despite the luxe decor and top-notch produce, there's nothing pretentious about the food here which contributes hugely to its appeal.

Cooked over fire where possible, Rockpool's offering exemplifies simplicity executed to perfection. Expect mouthwatering beef like Blackmore’s Wagyu and Cape Grim grass-fed beef which represent the best produce in Australia.

Specialising in premium steaks, Kingsleys is a carnivore’s idea of heaven – though crustacean lovers are also very well catered to with freshly caught seafood on the menu.

For the best of both worlds, start with the snow king crab legs before moving on to the black Angus eye fillet. The amazing food is matched by the equally as impressive harbourside views thanks to its primo location on the iconic Finger Wharf.

From the good people who brought us Bistecca and The Gidley comes this new concept steak restaurant - Alfie's.

Whilst Bistecca champions the T-bone and The Gidley the rib eye, Alfie's hero is the Sirloin. Fast-paced and hitting the Sydney scene running, the team promises to have your steak on your table within 15 minutes - ideal for power lunches and city slickers on the go.

A chargrilled steak from Meat & Wine Co Sydney
Meat & Wine Co

Meat & Wine Co.

Looking for a steak spot just a hop, skip, and jump away from the office for a mid-week romantic meal? Look no further than The Meat & Wine Co, located smack bang in the middle of Sydney CBD.

Tucked away on Castlereagh Street, the African-inspired steakhouse institution’s twelfth location feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of the 9 to 5 grind, with diners immediately transported to another world thanks to the moody, chic interior.

Remaining faithful to The Meat & Wine Co’s promise of delivering the finest meats, the menu takes its origins from the South African ‘braai’, an open grill cooking method centred on social gatherings.

The secret to any great night out may just be the perfect steak, something The Meat & Wine Co. does very, very well.

It starts with the careful selection of premium cuts from Australian providores, followed by the restaurant’s signature 35-year-old family basting recipe, resulting in a unique and intensely desirable flavour that will keep you coming back for more.

Also on the menu is The Meat & Wine Co’s exclusive, in-house, dry-aged steak programme: AGED. The Castlereagh Street venue launched the artisan beef dripping butter with black Australian truffle, where the umami depth balances harmoniously with the tender marbling of Shorthorn Rib-Eye from the heart of Gippsland in Victoria.

The result? A “melt in the mouth” meal.

French-inspired restaurant with a cosy dining room and red checker tableclotch at Brasserie l'Entrecote Sydney
Brasserie l'Entrecôte

Brasserie l'Entrecôte

For the Francophiles among us, this one is for you.

Brasserie l’Entrecôte takes a nod from the famous one-dish steakhouse “Le Relais de l’Entrecôte” in Paris with outstanding results.

The concept is simple at this North Shore bistro – amazing quality steak accompanied by a secret sauce, green walnut salad and homemade fries. Of course, you can order anything else you desire, but being home to some of the best steaks in Sydney, it's hard to resist this particular menu item.

This French eating house is refined and elegant with a charming vintage touch and will transport you for a fleeting, blissful moment to the streets of Paris. Très bon!

ESQ Bar & Dining

ESQ Bar & Dining

A luxurious experience from the outset, just one visit to ESQ Bar + Dining and you'll fall in love instantly. Just upstairs from sister venue Reign, ESQ is darker and more mysterious in its approach – think dark wood interiors and moody lighting.

More commonly known as a buzzing bar, the steaks that come off the grill here are not to be missed. From a 600g rib eye on the bone to a 250g rump when you aren't quite as peckish, these steaks pair well with the sides of fries, maple-glazed carrots and green salad.

For serious mixology buffs, look to the menu for their signature cocktails and their beautifully detailed descriptions – that reads more like a story than a drinks list.

Hurricane's Grill

Hurricane's Grill Circular Quay

It’s hard to decide what’s more iconic: Hurricane’s legendary meat selection or its Circular Quay location. Either way, it’s the place to go for a juicy steak or a rack of ribs coated in the steakhouse’s special sauce (warning: it gets messy!), and an array of indulgent sides.

Looking at the steaks, you can have your rump, rib eye, striploin or scotch fillet cooked to your liking - are you a medium rare or well-done type of person?

Sure, there are plenty of other dishes on the menu, but we know what you came for… you'll want to bring the meat lover in your life along to this Sydney establishment.
