Templestowe is situated on an elevated perch of land, 50 metres above sea level so it’s got some of the best views of the sparkling cityscape going around.
The area has an impressive selection of top schools, including five state schools (Serpell, Templestowe Heights, Templestowe Park, and Templestowe Valley) and two Catholic primary schools (Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Kevin's).
In terms of housing, Templestowe has a large offering to cater for every stage of life from stylish apartments to sprawling family homes on acre blocks and retirement homes. Templestowe is close to the Eastern Freeway so you can drive into Melbourne’s CBD within 25 minutes.
Residents flock here for the slower tempo with many agreeing it’s got all the charm of a small country town but it’s still close enough to the action of Melbourne’s CBD if you want it. Plus, it’s close to Westfield Doncaster and the Templestowe Village Shopping Centre.
Templestowe also has a thriving local food scene with has been on an upward trajectory in recent years. Local favourites include the Templestowe Hotel (or as it’s affectionately called ‘The Tempy’) which has been a mainstay in the hood since 1868 and is the perfect place for a hearty pub feed, Down The Rabbit Hole, a popular cafe that is best known for their bronuts (a brownie/doughnut hybrid), and Miss Kneady does the best Italian in town.

Templestowe’s main attraction is its plentiful green space. The suburb boasts a whopping 200 hectares of parkland with local favourites including Westerfolds Park. Head here with a picnic and soak up the scenery, which is home to native furry friends like wombats, kangaroos, echidnas, platypus, and loads of birdlife.
THE SLOW LANE
It’s a fine art striking the perfect balance between tranquility and accessibility, but Templestowe does. It offers a slower tempo and a relaxed lifestyle, ideal for those who want to embrace a more chilled way of life. However, for city workers, the suburb is still close enough to Melbourne's bustling CBD.
