Kew Suburb Profile

The Locals

Stately Kew has always been rather on the fancy side. Living in Kew means experiencing a historically affluent suburb where everything, from the homes to the schools, bears the hallmark of wealth and good taste. It’s no surprise that this charming locale has long been favoured by the well-to-do.

In the lush and hilly streets, it’s easy to forget that the bright lights of the CBD and the urban grit of Abbotsford are within easy reach. In fact, grit is nowhere to be found in this delightful eastern enclave. Life is good here, with the bustling shopping strip around Kew Junction offering a plethora of dining options and the chance to mingle with like-minded neighbours over lattes and the morning paper or a glass of red or two come nightfall. But that’s about as heady as family-friendly Kew gets when the sun goes down.

Beyond its café culture and prime location, living in Kew offers access to a stronghold of elite schools. You’re not likely to go far here without running into a bunch of bag-toting students in pursuit of the nearest tram. Coupled with local favourite Studley Park, a host of golf courses, and gorgeous period homes, it’s no wonder that Kew is the hot pick for the city’s wealthier families in search of the good life.

Area Features

Cafe Culture

Considering its established pedigree, Kew has a surprisingly hip café scene – enough to draw the trendy young hordes from neighbouring Abbotsford and beyond for weekend brunch.

Parklife

Active locals can often be found jogging through the paths of Studley Park or admiring river views along Yarra Bend. Equally popular are the area’s impressive golf courses, confirming Kew’s position as a haven of greenery.

Kew Junction

Bustling Kew Junction is the lifeblood of the area. Shopfronts are filled with eateries, cafes, restaurants and a selection of boutiques. It is where neighbours gossip over morning coffees, run their daily errands, and then return in the evening for a spot fine dining.

Affluent families line up to call this highly admired suburb home. Drawn in large part by the area’s elite schooling options, they’re equally enamoured of the beautiful period homes, ample parklands, prime location and prestigious postcode (not to mention the impressive golf courses and sporting clubs). Retirees are equally at home in the comfortably luxurious streets. Once people are in they don’t tend to be in a rush to move elsewhere. Ever.
