Chambers Flat Strawberry Farm

One of the longest-standing and most popular fruit-picking destinations in Brisbane is the Chambers Flat Strawberry Farm. The farm is run by fourth and fifth-generation strawberry growers–and there’s even strawberry royalty in the family! The passion for these sweet little fruits began in 1959, when Laura and Pieter’s great-grandparents grew strawberries for Cottees Jam.

Nowadays, this bustling farm welcomes families searching for the perfect punnet of berries. Stroll through row after row of plants, embracing the fresh air and the beautiful surroundings.

There’s also a little shop on site, where you can shop a variety of delectable strawberry products, or enjoy a strawberry ice cream made from the farm’s very own produce.

Kalbar Sunflower Farm

Sunflower fields, forever. Take a scenic trip to the Scenic Rim by heading out to the Kalbar Flower Farm to see the sunflower fields in full bloom!

With ample photo ops, food trucks with local produce and your very own fresh sunflowers to pick and take home, this is the perfect chance to get out of the city, breathe in some fresh air and enjoy.

Wander through the rows of sunflowers that tower over you and count the happy bees and ladybeetles as you go. Pooches are welcome, so you can also snap plenty of content for their pupstagram. Hot tip: take gloves, secateurs and a bucket to carry your sunflowers… they’re a little stickier than you might think!

Open seasonally, check website for dates.

Tropical Fruit World

Wander just over the border to  Duranbah to discover Tropical Fruit World, an absolute paradise of produce.

Formerly known as Avocadoland, Tropical Fruit World has operated since 1983 as one of the industry’s leading agri-tourism destinations, having welcomed over two million visitors.

Take guided tours, enjoy fruit tastings, or shop your way through the fruit market, farm nursery and retail marketplace. Not only can you buy fresh fruit and skincare, but also your very own fruit trees to take home to turn your backyard into a miniature tropical oasis of your own.

Whilst there’s not so much fruit picking happening here in the orchards, you know that the fruit you’re picking up from the market is some of the freshest and most local produce around.

The Freeman’s Organic Farm has a long legacy, having been run by four generations of Freemans. Currently run by Lesley and her son David, the Farm continues to deliver some of the best organic tropical fruits around Queensland–think avocados, custard apples, mangoes, paw paws and bananas.

Having expanded their range of produce over the years, you’ll also find a large range of organic fruits, vegetables and herbs growing happily away here in the volcanic basalt soils.

If you’d like to try some of the award-winning fruit for yourself, book in for a tour with Farmer David to learn more, with children invited to pick their own seasonal fruit for free.
