Not entirely plant-based but it is hard to miss the huge range of vegan options at inventive spaghetti and spritz restaurant Mark + Vinny’s. Throughout the menu, traditional favourites and innovative creations collide, and even cherished old-school classics get the plant-based treatment; vegan carbonara, anyone? Alongside the flamboyant menu, Mark + Vinny’s boasts an epic spritz menu to keep you well hydrated.
52 Waterloo Street, Surry Hills
Hidden behind St Mary’s Cathedral in the city, Bodhi has an incredible vegan menu. Settle into an outdoor seat among the fairy lights and fig trees, and order up a feast of Oriental delights. Think steamed Chinese vegetables, san choy bao, vegan dumplings, salads and stir-fries with a rainbow of veggies, nuts and herbs. To round off your meal with a vegan yuzu cheesecake with black sesame.
2-4 College Street, Sydney
Situated within Ovolo Woolloomooloo, this entirely plant-based restaurant and bar ticks all the foodie boxes. Both the food and cocktail menus are full of innovative and out-of-the-box dishes, with whimsical and creative plate-ups. With lots of fusion elements, the scope of the menu is broad and does not conform to any one cuisine.
6 Cowper Wharf Road, Woolloomooloo
In prime position on Woolloomooloo Wharf, OTTO Ristorante has fine dining down to a tee – and they cater to vegans too. The restaurant offers a vegan degustation, and it’s incredible. It changes regularly, but you can expect to enjoy zucchini flowers, ravioli topped with vegan cheese and pistachio, creamy mushroom risotto and desserts to match.

Sometimes a huge bowl of pho is all you need to solve the world’s problems. That’s where Golden Lotus steps in. Foodies flock to sample Saigon-born chef David Nguygen’s healing pho, made with rice noodles, veggies, tofu and plenty of zest. Pho aside, the creamy laksa, vegetarian fried dumplings, and tofu, eggplant and mushroom hot pot are worth the trip. Oh, and it’s BYO. Gather the girls!
343 King Street, Newtown
An eatery that went 100% vegetarian about a year ago, Yellow has a vegan focus, and every plate feature’s produce grown by local suppliers. The restaurant is à la carte during the week and offers three- and five-course tasting menus on Saturdays. Set inside a converted 1950s art gallery, Yellow is as achingly hip as it is healthy.
57 Macleay Street, Potts Point
After a decade whipping up cheesy pizzas, Gigi’s went vegan in 2015 and hasn’t looked back. Foodies flock here for the arancini, potato croquettes, eggplant parmigiana, and of course, the pizza – whose dough has been given pizza’s highest honour: an accreditation from the Associazone Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN).

Introducing: Sydney’s first plant-based burger joint. The burgers are big and juicy, filled with plant-based patties (like falafel) as well as lettuce, mushrooms, onion, tomato relish, mustard aioli and vegan cheese and chorizo. There are also thick-cut sweet potato chips on offer, coconut milk-based shakes, and a selection of organic beers and soft drinks.
Randwick, Glebe, Newtown and Parramatta
Tucked inside The Red Lion in Rozelle, The Green Lion is Sydney’s first vegan pub. Here you’ll find classic pub meals that are completely vegan, such as burgers, mac ‘n’ cheese, tacos, pizzas and even hot dogs. If you can’t decide, opt for a beefless burger and a side of fries, which are drizzled in vegan gravy and cheese.
726 Darling Street, Rozelle
Though it’s not strictly vegan, there are plenty of plant-based options to choose from. The menu is mostly Asian-inspired, but there are a few dishes that can be described as Central American or Moroccan. Get there early to score a table as it gets quite busy, and sip on a glass of vegan wine while munching on ginger dumplings.
417 Crown Street, Surry Hills
This feel-good restaurant dishes up a delicious range of vegan food. While the menu changes all the time, you can usually expect hummus, lentil dahl, veggie patties, vegan burgers and Sri Lankan and Malaysian delights. Diners sit at friendly communal tables and pay whatever they feel the meal is worth, and all profits go to charity.

Vegan food, served up buffet-style? Yes, please! A staple on Sydney’s vegan dining scene, Green Gourmet has over 130 items on its menu, most of them Chinese. It works like this: you choose what you want to eat and how much, and you then pay by weight. Easy. Many of the options are gluten-free, making it a great place for varying dietary requirements.
