Are you suffering from a severe case of Amalfi coast blues? Don't despair. We've taken style cues from these lust-worthy European seaside destinations to create a hot list of products for your modern Mediterranean-inspired home. You'll be channelling your holiday blues, into a warm modern Mediterranean abode in no time.
Now you can stare lovingly at the Amalfi coast water by having it right in your living room. Stuart Canton did the hard work for us by photographing some of Italy's most popular holiday destinations.
2. Rancho relaxo
Rattan furniture instantly creates that relaxed holiday-at-home feel. For extra indulgence, a rattan day bed will surely get those holiday vibes flowing. We found this beautiful rattan day bed from Family Love tree with the soft cushion in a Greek Mediterranean blue.
3. Hard Urn
Handmade ceramic urns and vessels are currently high on the homewares trend radar. And since most Mediterranean homes are kitted out with at least one or two, it's only fitting to have one in your new modern Mediterranean pad, too. An investment piece that will stand the test of time this will never go out of style.
4. Decked out
On a sunny Australian winter's day, nothing's better than basking in the glorious sun. And even more so when you can lounge around in this retro-inspired folding deck chair. The Greek coloured blue and white stripes will make you feel like you're soaking up rays on a Santorini beach. Dreamy.
5. Face plate
Inspired by their travels to the Greek and Italian coast, Alex & Trahanas is a lifestyle concept brand with beautiful homewares made from artisans in the region. These plates, with hand-painted faces, are by artists in the Puglian region, and make a fun addition to a home dinnerware collection, or a piece of hanging wall art.
6. Light reading
For some additional summer inspo for your holiday at home, have a read of this wanderlust coffee table book by photographer Akila Berjaoui, The last days of Summer. Her style takes influence from beachside photography of the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and is filled with snaps of people in seaside locations in France, Italy and her home country Australia. If this doesn't get you on the holiday mood, quite frankly, we don't know what will.
7. Rugged up
Moroccan and Turkish rugs make an exotic addition to a living space, by adding warmth and texture. House of Orange has a modern Med take on the Moroccan Berber rug – we are loving this white wool rug and its cobalt blue lines.
8. Blue eyes
In traditional Greek culture, the blue eye symbol Mati is used to protect the evil eye of a negative curse. To keep the positive energy flowing, this blue eye-inspired cushion from Fenton & Fenton will not only bring positive energy into your home, its summery Mediterranean tones will add warmth and style.
9. Golden arches
Decorative archways are a common architectural detail in Mediterranean homes, but you don't need to knock any walls down to complete the look. Pop and Scott have a beautiful brass arched mirror that would work wonders as a bathroom mirror – it has a shelf to house all your favourite bathroom products.
10. Citrus & Terracotta
To be an authentic Italian local, plant a citrus tree like a kumquat plant in a terracotta pot outside in the sun and watch it flourish. For a modern spin, we like this Capra Designs pot in a soft muted pink tone. However, a traditional terracotta pot from your local garden centre will also do the trick.
