The Pip Edwards’s Guide to Bondi Beach
P.E. Nation, it’s what all the cool kids are wearing in fitness-crazed Bondi Beach. A brand that echoes the outdoor lifestyle of one of Sydney’s most iconic destinations, P.E. Nation is fashionable yet comfortable, streetwear yet sporty and it’s what co-founders Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning, needed in their wardrobe.
“What was missing in the industry was what we actually wanted to wear on a daily basis. As busy mothers juggling school runs with office meetings, we wanted something fashionable but comfortable,” says Pip.
A play on the nostalgia of physical education and Pip Edwards’s name, P.E. Nation has become a brand that we can’t get enough of.
“Claire and I are the brand. We live and breathe it. We wear it. And most importantly, we actually need it in our wardrobes. So, we created it first and foremost for our own need and aesthetic, knowing there must be other mums and women in the world, just like us,” says Pip. “And now we have launched menswear, as the reality is, we never imagined it would only be womenswear. Claire and I are such tomboys and are inspired by menswear! P.E Nation is for everyone, everywhere, united by sport.”
Q&A with Pip
How long have you been a Bondi local?
I have lived in Bondi for nearly 20 years – from north, to south, to the middle of Bondi, I’ve done some serious time there.
What drew you to the area and what do you love about living here?
Initially a boyfriend at the time lured me into Bondi, and a lot of my friends lived in the area, now I will never leave.
How has Bondi influenced P.E Nations brand and style?
I don't think Bondi itself has influenced P.E Nation directly. Indirectly, however, the Bondi lifestyle has influenced me and my activities as a local and my passion to be outdoors, and near the beach and live an active life! P.E Nation has been accepted by the locals because it too suits their lifestyle. People who live by the beach generally do so because they have some kind of an active life or they love to be outdoors, the sun, the ocean, and the landscape. And that's what P.E is about. Whether it's solving the world's problems with a girlfriend while walking Bondi to Bronte or doing a soft sand run sweating it out, charging up the Marks Park stairs, doing a boxing sesh at North Bondi or simply basking in the sun on the beach or at icebergs pool, P.E is about finding what you love, and loving what you do.
