8 of the Best Eastern Suburbs Fitness Studios

When it comes to fitness, the people of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs know what they’re doing, and the abundance of fitness studios scattered throughout the area is testament to this. From HIIT and boxing to pilates and yoga, there’s a studio to fill any needs – but here is the best of the best.

The name says it all really, and F45 has made a name for itself around the country but first pulled in popularity in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The classes consist of a functional training circuit lasting 45 minutes, with a variety of weights and cardio. A different circuit is run each day and there are F45 gyms scattered throughout Bondi and Bondi Junction, but the Double Bay studio has recently had a glamorous makeover.

12 Round

Similar to F45, 12 Round is a circuit of 12 rounds, with each round lasting three minutes and the total circuit about 40 minutes. Instead of classes, gym-goers can jump in every three minutes so it’s an ideal option for busy professionals to squeeze in a workout at a time that suits. A trainer supervises the sessions, which are cardio and weight based with a significant amount of boxing.

Power Living

Vinyasa your thing? Get your downward dog to a Power Living studio. The yoga studios, based in Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction boast renowned heated vinyasa classes giving your yoga workout some edge (read: sweat). Most classes are heated to 32 degrees while there are a few non-heated classes for those not wanting to break into a sweat. A strong yoga class, which can easily become a daily habit.

A functional training gym in the heart of South Bondi, Agoga is a self-described athlete’s gym, where you’ll at least train like an athlete. Offering workouts from the diaries of big names like Usain Bolt and Cathy Freeman, the classes of 5-16 people focus on interval training creating lean, strong outcomes. It’s an expensive membership, but you’re paying for quality here. The classes are always different, keeping its members on their toes and out of Boredomville. (Because we all know where that ends.)

Body Mind Life

Another oasis for keen yogis, Body Mind Life has studios all throughout the east from Surry Hills and Redfern to Bondi Beach and Potts Point. Focussing on yoga, pilates and meditation, the studios collectively offer more than 300 classes each week. The studios are fresh, herbal tea is always within reach and the Yin classes are notoriously gorgeous here. Membership is reasonably priced considering the variety in both styles and studios.

Elixr may be built upon yoga and pilates, but it’s an ‘all-rounder’ gym for Sydneysiders. With its biggest studio held in Bondi Junction, Elixr is famous for its reformer pilates classes but there’s yoga, boxing, a pool and general gym facilities on offer too. Membership is reasonably cheap considering its offerings - and the fact its interiors feel more wellness retreat than gym - so if you’re into variety Elixr is your place.

Barre Body

For the keen ballerina or simply a nostalgic one, Barre Body studios deliver a barre workout incorporating equal parts ballet, vinyasa yoga and pilates. The classes leave most sore in muscles they didn’t realise they had, with it a popular workout to tone glutes, stomach and arms. The Bondi Junction studio is one of Sydney’s largest, holding classes of 30 people while there’s also a popular studio in Surry Hills.

Flow Athletic

Built upon the philosophy of one strength session, one cardio session and one yoga session each week, Flow Athletic is a studio catering to every gym need - which has seen the modern studio gain extreme popularity. The studio has an airy, minimal feel with the staff providing a warm atmosphere. You’re also bound to meet Flow mascot/Insta pup ‘Wilbur the Spaniel’ along the way.
