The Inside Scoop on How to Live and Shop like Mega Blogger, Tash Sefton.

Q&A with Tash

Tell us a little bit about your background?

I originally grew up on the Northern Beaches and recently moved to Mosman 12 months ago when we needed more space for our family (my husband Mark and I vowed only to live beachside, that is until we had two very active boys ha - Jay 10 and Mac 4). I've worked in the fashion industry my whole career, mainly as a product developer and head buyer at General Pants Group. I met my best friend Elle when working there and we started our blog as a hobby about 10 years ago. This hobby turned into our business and dream come true. We now have an online store that ships globally (mainly to the USA) and just launched our new TV series Style Squad (a makeover show) on Style via Foxtel.

Have you always been entrenched in fashion? When did you know that you wanted to work in this industry?

My mum is incredibly stylish and she gave me a Gucci handbag for my 16th birthday. I’ve been in love with fashion ever since and have never looked back. She taught me style and how to dress – less is always more! I understood and appreciated styling and it all (business side + my passion) came together when I went to Fashion Design College.

How would you describe your personal style and how has it evolved over the years?

Being part of a denim retailer most of my career (GPG) - denim became part of my DNA. This is why I'm dressed in denim most of the time. It's comfortable and I think I've perfected how to wear it casually as well as dressy. I also think dressing is about investments rather than lots of stuff! However, I do love a designer handbag or few (ha!)

Would you say that your personal style has influenced the way you style your home?

Yes, yes! Elle and I always say @theyallhateus is "controlled chaos" – and is also the way we work and dress! They All Hate Us is a mood board of all the things we love, all mixed together, with a hint of hippy luxe. Our home is very much that (boho-luxe), however when moving into our current, Victorian-esque home I was really thrown off. I wasn't used to super high ceilings, fire places and detailed mouldings....but we painted everything white and then the layering process began.

How long have you lived in Mosman and what made you decide to live in this area?

Nearly 12 months. We have lived most of our married life in Manly, but when looking for a new house in the same suburb, that fit the criteria, we couldn't find one. So, we explored different areas. I never thought I would live in Mosman as the beaches were always a priority. However now we are here, although not beachfront, it's so beautiful and we really love it. We have a stunning garden, as well as outdoor area and just a few short blocks away from Balmoral beach. So it's the perfect blend of both space and water. I am also loving the village and shopping strip – it’s super close and easy to get to and a few designer stores as well for me to get my shopping hit when I'm meant to be buying groceries!

Military Road (in Mosman) is widely known as the local fashion hub. Where are you shopping locally to pick up casual, everyday style pieces? Are there any other local fashion destinations that you can tell us about?

There are major retailers like Country Road, Seed and Witchery, all next to boutiques and designer labels like Camilla & Marc (my fav!), Rebecca Vallance & Bassike. It's a really great blend of brands. I love dressing high street with high end. Instead of heading to the city or a shopping centre the Mosman Village has a lovely feel, so walking it is ideal. Also lots of yummy places to eat along the way.

Where in Mosman can you pick up a special occasion outfit?

I love Camilla & Marc - Sophisticated cool. Leather + dresses from Rebecca Vallance and designer denim from Curve. Also, can't go past Bassike for designer basics and stylish, casual, everyday wear.

What’s your hidden gem in Mosman?

There is this French Patisserie that's so tiny (next to the post office). They have the most perfect baguettes and chocolate eclairs - made the Parisian way. Also the local fruit shop has fresh market flowers and I can fill my whole house with flowers for $30.

What keeps you living in Mosman?

That I can be anywhere in 15 minutes. Balmoral beach is stunning and running up Awaba Street is currently my cardio and getting me swimsuit ready - it's nearly vertical!

What would you say is the difference between Mosman’s culture versus its surrounding suburbs?

It's so "Mosman" I can't explain what I mean! (Hahaha) Maybe it's the odd looks I get when I wear ripped jeans to the shops or that everything is on Mosman time. It's simple but very luxe (I think we live in the smallest house in Mosman, Haha). Coming from the beaches where everything is very cool, calm and chilled, Mosman is much fancier, even though it's a short 5-minutes away.

Co-running a very successful blog, having your own TV show and being a mother - you must be super busy. What do you love doing when you have some down time?

I spend all my free time at my parents’ house. They have an incredible beach front home (on the Northern Beaches) which is such a retreat for me and my family. My children run free, mums cooking is perfection while my dad snores in the back ground, it's idyllic. We are a very close family so my sisters and I always head there.

Complete this sentence. When I get home, the first thing I do is…

Give my boys a big kiss and hug (they always greet me running up the hall way and pretty much crash tackle me!).
