Odd Culture

When it comes to this Inner West restaurant, bar and cafe, seasonal, fermented and inventive reigns supreme.

Newtown's watering hole for the weird and wonderful and all-day dining from the minds of head chef, Jesse Warkentin (ex-Continental Deli), and exec chef, James MacDonald (ex-Hubert), Odd Culture is European at its core with an Asian flare. A natural wine and wild ale bar with one of the most extensive offerings of its kind; a deep dive into terroir and place - accompanied by a seasonal cocktail program of local ingredients and rolling ferments.

Launched in November 2021, the venue has been Odd Culture Group’s biggest project to date and the two-level, hybrid space boasts a bar, restaurant, and now cafe, as well as an extensive bottle shop a couple of doors down - all centered around the exploration of fermentation.

With the arrival of the new opening time of 7am has come the launch of their expertly curated breakfast offering. Forget about smashed avo and eggs benedict, and say hello to a concise breakfast menu that heroes housemade elements, that provide an inventive spin on classic dishes.

The sumptuous double decker bacon butty is lathered in sweet and smoky tonkatsu sauce, while the buttermilk pancakes are topped with banana ice cream and lashings of housemade miso caramel. Feeling a bit adventurous? The blood pancake with smoked pork jowl, fried egg, and chilli maple is worth a try, and the steak and eggs with tomato salad and fermented red pepper butter is the perfect dish for those looking for a hearty meal.

But whatever you do, make sure to order the seasonal mimosa. The perfect pair to Odd Culture's epic breakfast offering.
