Alkina lodge

Surrounded by Otway National Park, Alkina Lodge takes luxury Great Ocean Road accommodation up a notch. Three private residences (each sleeping up to eight guests each) have been architecturally designed – stone floors, fully equipped Gaggenau kitchen, Bose audio system, European furniture and a living room that is bathed in natural light from the stunning sky windows above. But, none of it compares to the bespoke wood fireplace. And it’s all only a short drive away from the Twelve Apostles, and the crashing wave of the Southern Ocean.

The Pole House

The Pole House

There’s a reason why this is the most photographed house on the Great Ocean Road. Suspended 40 metres above Fairhaven Beach, The Pole House was built in the 1970s and has been a Great Ocean Road accommodation landmark ever since. The house itself may be small, but it sure does pack a punch – floating above the Great Ocean Road with uninterrupted views up and down the coastline. Completely self-contained with one-bedroom and one bathroom, waking up to the sounds of crashing waves, has never felt so magical (and romantic).

The Farm

A short 15-minute drive from Lorne, The Farm is one of the most stunning properties inland from Great Ocean Road. On a property that has expansive views of rolling farmland, Pennyroyal Valley and Otway Hinterland, is a contemporary home that’s designed in the shape of an H. Inside, the modern furnishings are made all the cosier with fireplaces, and the four bedrooms and open plan living areas open out to awe-inspiring views. Outside, The Farm has many places to kick back and relax, but none others are quite like the large fire pit at sunset.
