1889 Enoteca

1889 Enoteca

One of the best spots in Brisbane for authentic Italian dining is 1889 Enoteca, located on the fringe of Brisbane city in Woolloongabba. The food and wine are inspired by the flavours of Rome and the kitchen here allows the local produce to truly shine with their traditional cooking methods. Dine from land or sea, with our pick of the menu landing on the Cicale Di Mare, a dish of Moreton Bay bugs, basil pesto cream and sundried tomatoes.

The wine list is equally as uninterrupted and considered, with natural wines (vini naturali) taking centre stage. These wines are made in the ‘old way of doing things’, with minimal intervention, small crops and indigenous yeasts.

Taste the difference for yourself the next time you’re hunting down one of the best Italian restaurants in Brisbane.

Antica

Antica

A local favourite in the bustling dining precinct of Wilston Village, Antica is one of the best new Italian restaurants in Brisbane for a mid-week dinner. Antica means ancient or ‘in the manner of the ancients’, a nod to their traditional style of cooking Neapolitan-style pizza. Owners Luke and Mike began their journey with the world’s first mobile pizza oven, housed in a 1962 Volkswagen Kombi van. The ‘Pizzantica’ van was soon looking to put down roots after the demand for a permanent location was heard from their customers. Thanks to the demand, now we have easy access to some of the best Italian food in Brissie.

The oh-so-sleek Bar Tano features an illuminated central bar, a buzzy atmosphere and accents of dark green marble. Inspired by Milan, Bar Tano is a casual spot to drop in and enjoy a martini or a coffee, and some traditional Italian eats.

The Gemelli team have a few of Brisbane’s best Italian restaurants under their belt, with Bar Tano in their stead as well as their two locations. Start with freshly baked focaccia, prosciutto-wrapped figs, zucchini flowers or shallow-fried Queensland calamari. Generous bowls of pasta are topped with 8-hour slow-cooked oxtail and short shin ragu, Nonno-approved sauces that elevate house-made ravioli and hand-cut gnocchi.

They even have share-style banquet menus for $70 and $100 per person respectively for anyone who is looking to experience all the biggest hits.

New Farm Deli

New Farm Deli

New Farm Deli is an absolute Brisbane institution for authentic Italian dining. Having been completely refurbished following a devastating fire in 2019, the Deli has been thriving ever since with droves of regulars and new diners alike descending upon the New Farm-based restaurant every weekend. The hefty menu is full of traditional classics, but we love poring over the cabinet treats to see what the sandwiches or piadines of the week entail. Make sure you save room for dessert, the limoncello cake and vanilla slice are worthy of a visit on their own!

Be sure to stroll through the shelves to take home high-quality and authentic ingredients to recreate the magic at home.

Another long-standing Brisbane favourite, Popolo is one of South Bank’s most popular dining destinations. Popolo means “people” and this is the mantra of the restaurant, with hearty meals designed to be shared, enjoyed and lingered over.

One of the dishes that render Popolo as one of the best Italian restaurants in Brisbane is the Cappellacci, filled with buffalo mozzarella, burnt butter, sage, pumpkin puree and pancetta but we’ve also never turned down an opportunity to enjoy the braided mozzarella with white balsamic honey figs and smoked prosciutto. Have you noticed we have a cheese theme running?

The location is the final component that secures Popolo as one of the Italian restaurants, with its sparkling views of the Brisbane River.
