A brand new festival is heading to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl during this New Year’s Day, produced by the same people who brought the world-famous outdoor festival, Piknic Electronik, to the city. Aptly named, The First, their sole focus is on bringing fans of live electronic, hip hop, house, and techno music, an immersive experience in one of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues. There’s a smorgasbord of electro music on offer with M.I.A, The Presets, and Action Bronson headlining, so best to spare some energy from the night before.

St Kilda’s iconic sea baths act as the backdrop for one of the liveliest New Year’s Day parties in Melbourne. The beachside venue, Captain Baxter, puts on one hell of a New Year’s Eve party, venue and will be backing it up the very next day, combining with s Sea Baths Rooftop and Encore for an epic sun-kissed party. Captain Baxter’s recently renovated interior, featuring a retractable-roofed dance floor, will provide the perfect spot for the sunset soirée and will also offer complimentary canapés and drinks from 1pm-3pm.

Take your New Year’s celebrations up a level and book yourself a ticket to Pt. Leo Estate’s New Years Day at Laura on the Mornington Peninsula. Victoria’s number one and recently two-hatted restaurant, Laura, plays hosts to one of the swankiest parties between the beach and Melbourne. There’ll be free-flowing Pommery Champagne, Mornington Peninsula Brewery Beers, Campari/Aperol Bar and live music by KISS FM DJs. Trance music lovers should hold off on the end-of-year celebrations, and instead flock to the epic Sundown festival set in the Shed 14 Central Pier at Docklands on New Year’s Day. Touring giant Evolution Events announced the return of their state-of-the-art trance concept, with German DJ/producer duo, Cosmic Gate headlining the event. Supported by a host of electronic artists who are ready to hit the decks, Sundown promises one interstellar start to the New Year.
