Beautiful Boutique Fitness Studios & Gyms in Melbourne to Workout in Style

Bend, breathe and sweat your way through a session at the best boutique fitness studios and gyms in Melbourne.

Sum of Us

Remember when a gym used to just be, well, a gym? We don’t either. Melbourne has enthusiastically taken its cues from the boutique fitness craze that began in New York, meaning we now have dozens of wellness sanctuaries that offer more than just a place to exercise, but a whole lifestyle.

At these boutique fitness studios in Melbourne, you’ll find beautiful architecture, thriving communities, therapy services, and even cafés offered in addition to some seriously hardcore workouts – making rolling out of bed for a 7 am spin class just that little bit easier.

Street Pilates (Image Credit: Emma Veness)

Street Pilates

‘You Look F*kin Good’ is not what you expect to see sprawled across a mirror inside a Pilates studio. But then again, this isn’t your regular Pilates studio. Say hello to Street Pilates, Bayside’s new low-impact, high-vibrations studio.

It's also anything-but-basic; a beautiful strength-focused studio and mentoring program, where traditional Pilates and weights training align with more fast-paced reformer workouts.

Street’s 45-minute hybrid sessions are curated by founder Annie Counsel, who has over 10 years experience as a high-performance sports coach. Her preference for Pilates leans towards strengthening rather than stretching, with a ‘take no prisoners’ approach.

The space is welcoming too - no standard and sterile traditional Pilates setting here! Instead it's a place kicking goals with its ample vibes, banging playlists and expert, hand-picked trainers, whose focus is on making you your strongest, sweatiest, most confident self.

Club AM:PM

Opened by pilates instructors (and friends), Abby Smith and Hannah Davis, it promises red-hot workouts for all levels, a healthy dose of endorphins and above all, a community where you’re welcome, every day, night and day. Accompanied by bold furniture and unique objects sourced by Good Space, the space also invites guests for a chin-wag pre and post class. It's the club we all want in on.

Enter 1R's very first Australian location in South Yarra. This London-formed club is one of three worlds, designed to take you on a journey to hell and back. Check in at the boutique fitness studio's beautifully designed upper level, before venturing into a dark and raw world below, brimming with adrenaline and anticipation for what's to come in each of the three studios on-site.

Warrior One

Warrior One

One step inside Warrior One’s laid-back yoga studio, and you’ll feel as though you’re in a beachside retreat, rather than ready to start a workout sesh. It’s a transformative experience with an innovative and sensory design that creates an instant and overwhelming feeling of calmness. The main style of yoga here is Vinyasa Flow, and the timetable suits both rigorous as well as meditative aspects of the practice. Don’t leave without lying on the custom-made day beds – they come surrounded by plants and complete with books to peruse. Relish in this moment of quiet reprieve before slowly stepping back into reality and braving the bustling streets outdoors.

Humming Puppy

Humming Puppy

More than just a cute name, this yoga studio literally hums – at a rate of 7.83 and 40 hertz, frequencies found to help ‘ground’ focus and stimulate peak performance. It’s a little curious to start, but within a few minutes feels totally natural, blocking out distractions and immersing you deeper into your practice. Better yet, clean mats and towels are always provided, so you only need to bring yourself.

Universal Practice

Universal Practice

A first of its kind, Universal Practice takes a medical first approach to its classes – and every session, from Pilates, yoga and meditation all led by qualified physiotherapists. Taking a physiological approach to fitness, Universal’s classes work to connect the entire body, from our organs, muscles, blood and bones, as well as mental and emotional health. The aim is to take away the pretentiousness around what yoga has become (here’s looking at you, fancy activewear!) and bring the focus back to yoga as a healing science that contributes to our holistic health.

One Hot Yoga

Turn up the heat on your yoga practice to 37°C. This is the temperature of One’s Slow Hot Flow classes, designed to boost your heart rate and calories burned per minute. Sweating is a given, and there’ll be times you question your will to go on, but somehow, the ultra-sleek, architect-designed space still manages to impart tranquillity as you power through to hot yoga glory.
